a number of restaurants are insisting people have it to go in. I asked them to help me install it on my nokia 102 and they just let me give my name and phone number.![]()
I'm glad to know that we'll be paying for this app, as well as the first failed app, for many, MANY years to come.
The first £11 million app was scrapped. 11... million.
More people died today from Flu.
That's the daily reported deaths number. The NHS does not do daily reporting of flu deaths so we don't know how many people died from the flu today/yesterday.
That said, so far this year in the UK deaths from complications related to COVID have been about 2x higher than average annual deaths from complications related to influenza. So statistically, COVID is deadlier than the flu.
PS. Worldwide, Tuberculosis is still the number 1 killer followed by heart disease.

Latest ONS statistics show COVID related deaths are significantly lower than those listed as related to pneumonia/influenza since July.
Week 37: Flu/Pneumonia related 1,423 COVID related: 99
By those figures, it would be understandable for someone to make a statement claiming more people died from flu today.

Not sure what your sources are?
Also, just for the conspiracy theorists:
I wonder how the establishment could possibly create a national DNA database from mouth swabs and begin location tracking on every member of the public without them suspecting the surveillance state encroaching on their privacy?...

Just 10 days ago, flu was killing more people :

Fortunately, they do report Flu cases daily and report it weekly:

We have not had a single flu death since week 12.

Not sure its good practice to publish things without reading them properly, it doesn't say there has been no deaths, it says there has been none above expected amounts, ie no excess deaths above what they would expect for this time of year.
And this from the ONS shows that deaths from flu etc are happening everywhere, if we had no deaths from week 12, why would they be on here? -

I did read it properly and i understand that the expected amount of Flu deaths is 0 (given we are not quite in the Influenza season). However, i'm not sure you fully understand the ONS link you are sharing.
The graphs shows grouping Influenza and Pneumonia. Assuming that Flu is the cause of those deaths is causing the issue here, Pneumonia will be the driver for those deaths given that is a common complication of many respiratory illness, including COVID, so it will appear pretty much on most of those death certificates.

Yes I do understand them and I know full well about the underlying causes however you seem to be suggesting that there has been ZERO deaths from Flu since week 12 which is factually wrong.
And covid isn't much different, someone could have died of heart failure but they might have had a positive covid response and that would be recorded on the death certificate. Sticks and stones
Anyway another thread going way off the rails, this is about the app. Make another thread if you want to talk about deaths

What's the point of saying something sensationalist like "more people died from flu today"? What is the point you're trying to make with that?
We know for a fact deaths spiked after a lag of a couple of weeks the last time there was a spike in Covid cases. Now we have another spike in cases but the deaths haven't spiked yet. Can people not put 2 and 2 together? Cases, lag and deaths it's not hard to arrange in your head. Last time we had a spike like this we had a lot of deaths pretty soon after. Doesn't matter if we have more deaths from flu today lol.
On a related note, most Covid related deaths are due to pneumonia or some other complication or underlying condition. So reporting for both covid-related and non-related deaths is not going to be accurate because it depends on testing every single person who has died which is not happening. It's easier to look at the excess deaths. Regardless how deadly what each of us think it is, can we not just trust doctors and medical experts who study this kind of thing and accept their advice? If A&E get flooded with people struggling to breathe, a lot of other people are going to die from completely unrelated illnesses/injuries because there isn't the capacity to treat them anymore and that could be you. My gf has been working 12.5h shifts for the last 2 weeks as a doctor in hospital. We can either supress the spread of Covid, increase capacity drastically (not happening) or leave people to die. And it doesn't matter if you come into hospital with covid or not, you're not gonna be treated if there isn't enough beds/nurses/doctors.
Maybe we should talk about the app?
Apparently the app doesn't work in Scotland, is that right?
Jon
This is the exact reason i focused on that. Every positive step that is being made to try and stop unnecessary deaths is met by an uneducated response or "im shouldnt have to wear a mask" "i shouldnt be stopped goin on a night out". And unnecessary death doesnt just include COVID, it includes those who are unable to get a hospital bed or treatment for something else which would otherwise be treatable.
