If I'm being totally honest, the 5 actually feels overpriced and I see no reason for the 4a 5g (stupid name), I'm not the only thinking the 5 is overpriced from what I've seen either.

Personally I would have liked to have seen the 5 be at the 4a 5g price and there be no 4a 5g....

The 4A 5G is what I've been waiting for. I could never understand why Google allowed its video to be so poor when the stills are so famously good. Now it's got 60fps@4k (hooray, they've caught up with the standards of my 5 year old phone!) and a genuinely new camera (i.e. new hardware and not just artificial software restrictions), so I'm in. Better chip and battery than the recent 4A seals the deal.

I can't decide if I really need to pay 200 above that for a metal back and wireless charging, so I probably won't. But the 4A 5G is definitely 150's-worth above the standard 4A in my opinion.

Words like "flagship" and "cheap" and "value" should not be used for either of these phones, unless you also put the word "not" in front of them...

It just seem crazy they are asking for flagship money (in android terms for "normal" phone sizes) for a phone with such middling specs. Really doesn't make sense. Both are overpriced and under specified. I guess that's largely due to the price of 5G support at the moment, but you'd expect an 865 or 865+ in their "flagship" device, surely.

Google seem to have given up on the Pixel line

You missed 'water proofing' and 90hz screen iirc too.

Have to be honest the wireless charging is something I wouldn't mind having on my next phone, especially if it has a nice 'vertical' dock as I really miss having that option, but I'm not going to overpay for something if you get me.

To be honest I've had no clue what google are doing with phones since the Nexus line. Its like they can't decide what their market is? At the start the seemed to want an android iphone at iphone prices, now it looks like they are trying to make a cheap flagship. I miss the clarity of the Nexus line up where it obvious the phone was techy types on the cheap. Saying that I don't see any issues with a 765g in a flagship but its not like its a cheap flagship - outside of Samsung/Apple £600 is high end money for a phone.

600 DKkr for a phone i will pay, even double of that, but £600 thats just about 5000 DKkr, and that i will not pay for a phone.

Re: Google takes the wraps off the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5

I upgraded from an original Pixel to a 4a(not 5G). Was wondering if the newer phones would have any "must have" features but doesn't seem like they do(for my use case at least). So if anyone is still considering a cheaper 4a, id say if no water resistance and no high refresh rate aren't a deal breaker, to go for it.

Been working from home so 5G couldn't be lesser of a priority right now.

It's the wide angle camera that ticks the box for me. Doubt I'll use the wireless charging or ability to charge other devices. The larger battery and the IP68 rating also on my short list, so the Pixel 5 is my preferred choice. I was hoping it would come out at £550 though tbh.

I ended up with an S20+5G but that was only because of the cost to change from my SIM only plan being £410. 5G was a "nice to have", but the cost of 5G phones was such I was almost certainly going to be getting an S10 generation model.

The only time I'd say 5G might be useful for you is if you have signal and your work from home depends on an internet connection. I use my phone as a hotspot if there are broadband issues and it has made the difference between me and the missus being able to work or not. Bear in mind that has been on a 4G signal and it worked just fine.

The high refresh rate is pretty good but it is really something you can live without. Water resistance is something I think is essential in all phones, especially in the UK. I don't want to be making a call and have to stop because it gets a little rainy.

Thats fair. I can def see water resistance as an important feature in the UK. Canada based here and if my internet goes, ill sooner write off the day then use my data so kudos to you. One important thing I was gonna mention is that my original pixel is still working(like new), I do take good care of my phones but its a 4 year old phone and I only upgraded because google stopped supporting it last oct. So i can't complain with pixel build quality and hoping the 4a can play the long game too.

Yeah, that true, forgot those features. Probably worth it in my case since I so a lot of wild walking. Also it turns out I'm looking at £599 in the UK since we're getting the sub6 5G and not mmWave, which I am fine with, and actually that's a much better price! Also free Bose wireless headphones from the Google shop if I buy before the 19th, so that's a good package for me. 5 it is!

Re: Google takes the wraps off the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5

I am somewhat disappointed. I currently have a Pixel 2 XL which i am very happy with. Updates are near the end so am looking to upgrade but i am not sure if the pixel 5 is what i expected from google this year. I have 0% interest in 5G as i don;t expect it to be available near me. I would much prefer 865 with 4G which would also provide WIFI 6.

Having said that I am not sure if i need a flagship phone. I feel the software /updates are much more important. the pixel 5 will give me latest android on day one for 3 years and also better security with the pixel m chip. £599 is tempting even thou it is over priced for the spec.

I am quite limited in my options as i don't like 3rd party skins /bloatware and like fast updates. O2 do offer the sony Xperia 1 II 5G at a decent price. the rrp is crazy. a headphone jack on a flagship phone is very rare now.

I will likely get the pixel 5 as i know i will be disappointed with anything other than stock /pixel android. I made the mistake of selling my nexus 5 early to get a LG G4. the only good thing about the LG G4 was the camera the rest of it was terrible. If the Pixel 5 is at least as fast as my pixel 2 xl then i would be happy. Due to the lower price i could be tempted to upgrade after 1 /2 years if google do produce phones with custom processors next year or the year after.

Re: Google takes the wraps off the Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5

It's a decent promotion to offer the Bose QC 35 II with these in the UK - takes about £180 off the price if you were to sell them straight on.

Having said that, it's still a bit of a steep asking price IMO, unless you really want the vanilla Android experience.
