Claims it to be better everywhere else, too.

20% price increase for Ryzen 5 version that's quite a leap

    only 19% more IPC

still no 5ghz base clock speed

no build in hardware acceleration for common gaming tasks like saving screenshots to png format or real time video encoding for recording while you game

I'm not impressed and will probably skip this generation of cpus

Yeah, I was really hoping for a spiritual successor to the price to performance of the 3700X
$450 is pretty steep for 5800X. I was hoping to upgrade processor for around £300.

Seems like AMD are adding in a price hike while they're the 'best' chip....maybe not the best decision imo.

It doesn't matter, who has the throne when I upgrade next year, around same time will get my money.

Its worse. The 65W TDP Ryzen 5 5600X is 50% more expensive than the launch price for the 65W TDP Ryzen 5 3600. The Ryzen 5 5600X is essentially AMD rebadging the Ryzen 4 3600 replacement up one tier.

    'Only' 19% increase in IPC?
Intel's advances in IPC were literally 0% over the past few years (ever since Zen released)... their only major increases were in clock speeds only (and massive power consumption increase).

Why would 5GHZ base clock speed be relevant or needed when AMD's IPC SURPASSES Intel's 5GhZ at lower clocks?

As for having no built in hw acceleration for common gaming tasks... where is this coming from?
AMD CPU's are frequently recommended for LIVE game streaming over Intel CPU's

Perhaps... but when did Intel give you such a good deal?
    Here's a hint: never.
Intel usually charges 20% more for barely 10% performance uplift.

Re: Price - generally things have gone up because of covid and supply problems. Heck I do livestreaming and webcams have risen about 40% during this year...
Prices will adjust down and everyone has put up them up for new products this year - look at NV and the 30XX fiasco (so bad I'm getting emails telling me to get in the q for 2pm first come first served releases of extra stock)
I don't think the prices are that bad, 19% increase and improvements are all great. I'm still on 2000 series anyway as the price was right at the time. Might see if I can grab 3 x 3000 series to upgrade the main system here next year after the dust has settled

I doubt it,as the price increases are actually quite large,as AMD has mucked around with the Ryzen 5. 50% price increase is ridiculous really. Plus if supply problems were that bad,it would not explain the Ryzen 9 3900 and Ryzen 9 3900X prices being lower now, than 10 months ago.

The Intel CPUs launched this year also were affected by the same problems, but where not increased in price at all.

AMD has just got greedy. They did the same when they were ahead with the Athlon 64. Its why we need a competitive Intel - none of these companies are your mates, and will want to milk you for what you are worth.

Smile and put a finger to his nose.

In general you can say consumers today ( consumers of anything ) are the slaves of this century.
you dont get chained up and flogged, they keep you in servitude with much more effective tools today.
And the people you vote for are all good with that it seem, cuz they will be getting their cut.

The $300 Ryzen 5 5600X comes with the Wraith Stealth. The previous X series CPUs(even the 65W TDP Ryzen 7 3700X) came with the higher tier Wraith Spire and Wraith Prism CPU coolers. The non-X parts came with the el-cheapo Wraith Stealth. AMD have basicaly pushed up the the Ryzen 5 3600 replacement up a tier.

I will see how the pricing of the Ryzen 5 5600 non-X,Ryzen 7 5700X ,and RDNA2 based GPUs land, but they might have lost me as a customer over the next upgrade cycle. The fact is they articially locked out B450 from having PCI-E 4.0,and tried screwing over B450/X470 owners from running Zen3. Now they are jacking up prices,to the extent a Core i7 10700K is significantly cheaper than a Ryzen 7 5800X.

    AMD didn't compare the cheaper £340 Core i7 10700K to the £420+ Ryzen 7 5800X for a reason.

All they have done is also give room for Intel to also keep their prices high, especially if the next generation of Intel CPUs also improves gaming performance.

Surprised they haven't 'replaced' the 3700x which is a gamer favourite so now you have to stump up a huge chunk extra for the 5800x and I can't see many willing to do that you might as well get yourself a 3900x/xt which is going to be found at a lower price.

AMD are doing what Nvidia did with Turing. Make sure the jack up the price of the new generation,so they don't need to reduce prices on the current generation. Then they can keep prices high.

Now we can see the whole reason for the XT series launch. AMD can then show how the Zen3 X series is "better value" than the worst price/performance Zen2 CPUs.

Lol they are a company, they exist to make profit, they have shareholders etc. to keep happy...

If the price doesn't suit you - don't buy them. Prices HAVE risen - you may not think so but inflation in the UK is quite high right now and is higher overall in the whole of the world. Having a global pandemic is a great reason for increased prices...

These are new products, prices will adjust and probably down. You are getting the best and latest and even possibly greatest. NV showed how not to do it perhaps higher prices might mean that stock is actually available for these products. You cannot expect big ipc gains of around 19% in the same power envelope and cheaper prices and stock.... something somewhere has got to give
