Ouch, well I expect it would have been picked up in testing if Nvidia wasn't being so cagey up till the release...

I hope AMD makes sure its drivers and features are upto scratch too - Ampere is very rushed by Nvidia standards(and I thought Turing was rushed too),so they have a window of opportunity here!

Re: HDMI 2.1 bug causing black screens with Nvidia Ampere GPUs

Weird thread title. The issue is with the Panasonic made chip for all HDMI 2.1 devices.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

I wonder what's different about the PS5 that makes it work but not the Xbox or Ampere cards.

Re: HDMI 2.1 bug causing black screens with Nvidia Ampere GPUs

This has nothing to do with Nvidia, it's a Panasonic error. It also has the potential to cause long term problems as the workaround seems to be to make devices able to send data in a non-standard way rather than Panasonic to affect a recall on all devices with the issue, leading to a generation of consoles and GPUs not adhering to the standards.

Yeah bit weird to essentially blame the 'output' devices when the issue is clearly on the 'input' end and only when it's a panasonic chip...

It is Nvidias Fault, you can't deny that, I wont defend them for not doing proper QA.. likewise any other company would get the knife, question is, it does not neccessarily have to do with the port provided itself, but could be by the same issue as there was issues when the cards went above 2000mhz.

Re: HDMI 2.1 bug causing black screens with Nvidia Ampere GPUs

I think some people are misunderstanding this - or I am!

As I understand it, Nvidia Ampere cards, Xboxes and PS5's are all fine. It's the input displays / devices that have the issue, with the Panasonic chip. I guess there is something slightly different with the PS5 that means it doesn't have the issue when paired with a device with the Panasonic chip.

So, this is not a problem with any output devices - the Ampere GPUs, Xboxes and PS5s are all good - it is a bugged non-compliant input device (monitor / TV for example) with the Panasonic chip.

    Or am I wrongs?

They are involved, but it seems a bit much to point the finger so firmly in their direction.

HDMI has a history of two devices not playing nicely. AV units where they are in the middle negotiating between two other devices is supposed to be about the hardest.

It is a negotiation between two things. I suspect fixes will be put in place at both ends.

Not saying that NVidia cards don't also have a problem, but how can they be at fault for something that occurs between Xbox series X (AMD chips) and TVs/receivers with a certain panasonic HDMI chip?

There is nothing wrong with Nvidias products, or the new XBOX (with AMD GPU,) it's the HDMI implementation on the Panasonic chip in the device that receives the output from those products, usually an AV receiver.

I'm no fan of Nvidia, but it's not their fault, or AMD/MS, or DENON (or other AV receiver manufacturers,) but Panasonics alone.

I mean, it isn't at all but whatever helps you sleep at night.

The issue is with the chip in receivers etc. Quite glad I decided to go for the previous gen when I replaced my AVR last month

Yeah, very click-baity title. This is not an Ampere issue as many readers will feel is implied by the title. Should have read "HDMI 2.1 bug causing black screens at 4K 120Hz".
