They probably added the usual Nvidia Crapworks stuff and it causes trouble

Probably the playtesters were getting dazzled by all the fake chrome, which suddenly popped up in Night City in the latest build!!

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 is being delayed for a further three weeks

I'm more annoyed at how every delay they've had seems directly linked to nVidia 30-series card problems. First their delayed release/launch, now the supply chain issues. They're doing an excellent job of demonstrating why you should never pre-order anything. They've got your money, and now it's one delay after another. If the game was supposedly done in April and was at the "could benefit from a little polish" stage, go ahead and release it now. We don't need to sync the launch across all platforms.

Well that's just nonsense top to bottom. The pandemic is the main cause. And then them doing next gen now. As they say, they've got 9 systems to do it for. You think they're going to hold up the release to work out the bugs on a graphics card line ? That is just daft.

Also, I can't see how them getting the money now or later really matters. Unless they're going to turn around and go "psych! massive scam we've got all your money toodles!".

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 is being delayed for a further three weeks

Agree with you Tunnah, this has got nothing to do with Nvidia - the devs have had RTX cards for years and the 30-series aren't that different (if at all).

They've explained the delay - working from home plus extra time needed now that it's got to be good on next gen console at the same time as other releases (when originally it would have released before so they would have got extra feedback/data from early buyers). IF you have to blame a GPU maker then it's AMD chips that the extra work is going into since that's the new factor, in terms of new consoles and the Navi release.

I wish they'd delay further and not crunch their programmers - to that end I wasn't going to buy it for a little while after release anyway.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 is being delayed for a further three weeks

People have very short memories. Witcher 3 was delayed at the last minute too,and surprise! surprise!you found CDPR used the extra time to plonk in a whole ton of Gameworks features, which were not shown off before. Then those very same features were poorly optimised from the start leading to a ton of patching.

Also, funny how the last delay also conveniently also lined up with the RTX3000 launch. This is all about the RTX side of the game, and probably CDPR scrambling to get it working better on the Ampere GPUs. Nvidia is sponsoring this title, and they are only doing it to sell new cards, and the help and other stuff that CDPR receives from that agreement is not out of the goodness of their heart.

That is another thing - apparently the AMD RDNA2 cards won't support RT in Cyberpunk 2077 at launch including consoles:

    https://www.gamebyte.com/cyberpunk-2...or-most-of-us/

Those looking forward to ray-tracing in CD Projekt Red’s upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 might be out of luck according to a new developer interview, as it’s been revealed that the game won’t support ray-tracing for most players.

According to an interview with PC Gamer magazine, the art director of Cyberpunk 2077 Jakup Knapik has revealed that the game will not support ray-tracing technology for most systems when the game releases next month.

At launch, the issue is with AMD graphic cards, which when Cyberpunk 2077 releases, will not support ray-tracing in the game.

Unfortunately, this problem is not exclusive to PC gamers seeing as both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S use AMD graphic cards too. This essentially means that next-gen consoles will also miss out initially on the gorgeous enhancements that ray-tracing technology brings.
So the delay isn't to do with getting RT working on AMD RDNA2 based GPUs,or the new consoles - the new consoles are running the same version as the previous generation. Even the dev kits for the new consoles have been around for a while. The only new metric in all of this are the Ampere based GPUs,which there is very limited supply off.

It lined up better with PS5 (same day) and XBoxSX (9 days earlier) launches.

They have delayed it a few times, and last time it was apparently consoles that also delayed the Witcher 3. In the time period of that last delay,CDPR incorporated tons of Gameworks features which were not even talked about. It was zero to do with consoles, they spent months putting in Hairworks, etc which replaced their in-house animation system, etc which the consoles had.

Also you have forgotten, the RTX3060 and RTX3060TI are going to launch later this year too(apparently late next month). So a December launch will mean Nvidia has the whole Ampere stack to the RTX3060TI/RTX3060 already out and for sale.

Nvidia is sponsoring this title, and they are not doing it for kindness, they are doing it to sell as many Ampere cards over what AMD is releasing. Delaying Cyberpunk until the RTX3060 and RTX3060TI mainstream GPUs are out,and making sure Ampere RTX performance in better is totally what Nvidia would want, even if they don't officially confirm it.

This is nothing to do with consoles looking at what I have been reading. CDPR said months ago the version running on the new consoles is the one for the XBox One X and PS4. The version which will incorporate RT will be launched next year:
    https://www.videogameschronicle.com/...series-x-2021/

“The next-gen version is planned for the next year and the plans are still in place – we’ve never revealed specific dates, but it’s planned for the next year, so the delay doesn’t change much in this regard,” CD Projekt president Adam Kiciński told investors on Thursday.
The version of the game for the new consoles, won't be the "next generation" version, but an "enhanced" version of the current console version. So that basically means higher FPS,higher resolution and probably higher textures, but not "next generation" which means no RT.

It's all to do with needing to fix RTX performance and waiting for Nvidia to finish releasing their whole Ampere stack.

Nothing to do with RDNA2 if this is the case, because the version which actually supports RDNA2 fully will be out next year.....and also the console dev kits have been around for a few months, at least much longer than Ampere samples apparently. If it was about consoles,we would be having RT on them at launch.

So unless CDPR told lies in the summer about the new consoles not supporting RT at launch, then its all about RTX support on Ampere GPUs. The same goes with rumours only RTX GPUs will support RT in the game at launch.

We will find out what GPUs and platforms will be having RT support at launch soon! Maybe you are right CDPR has added RT support for the new consoles so it's all about that - but it would contradict what they already said. I can only go by what CDPR has been saying the last few months. Maybe they need to clarify if AMD platforms are getting RT support at launch!

What evidence are you basing that on? I've certainly not seen anything suggesting RTX performance was the thing that was needing more work.

CTF I don't get why you're linking a scenario that happened 5 years ago with things now, it really screams trying to make links that simply don't exist. So what if that's what happened 5 years ago ? And making out like it's the 30 series causing issues doesn't make sense because you're linking it to a shortage of CONSUMER availability when devs will have had access to the hardware and capabilities months ago

PC will sell well, that's a given. But they've got 8 other systems that are gonna absolutely destroy PC sales, they're not pushing it back for nvidia.

After release, it will probably not be long before the first terabyte patch.

I'd avoided saying it myself as it seems cynical and paranoid. But there is definitely a pattern.

Re: Cyberpunk 2077 is being delayed for a further three weeks

    Is it paranoid though? Consider:
    1. CDPR had past form with TW3 and all the GameWorks junk which in usual Nvidia fashion ran badly but slightly less badly on Nvidia cards
    2. Nvidia are still Nvidia and still play as dirty as they always have.
    3. Cyberpunk 2077 is being hyped as the biggest game with tons of people looking to upgrade their PC for it.

Now for 3, you'd think as Tunnah said the combined sales of all the non-PC version makes them more important to CDPR but who knows why they seem willing to concentrate mostly on the GameWorks PC version?
Anyway, despite all the hype I never finished TW3. Was looking for a nice open-world RPG and while it is technically very good, being force to play Geralt doesn't appeal to me and the world isn't as open as all that.
