I expect it will perform the same as the 3090 in gaming and the 3090 will either be quietly retired or remain as a niche part for people who need the extra 4gb VRAM - I can't see any point releasing a product that's only 5% faster than the 3080. Let's face it they can't chop the price of the 3090 just two months after launch and effectively admit they got their launch prices wrong because they didn't expect AMD to be competitive. So this is the more appetising way to re-adjust their price stack without having to openly admit their price gouging attempt had failed.
