Re: UK government describes role of the National Cyber Force (NCF)

What I find weird was the rant against Airbus, when they ignored Boeing getting fined billions of USD too,for similar reasons, the decades of public contracts used to prop up companies like Boeing or the fact the same subsidy crap was tried against Canadian Bombardier at the behest of Boeing. That is because the C-series(now Airbus A220),was a better design.

Nothing to do with the fact Boeing instead of going with clean sheet designs(unlike its competitors),just kept putting lipstick on a 737 shaped pig,and didn't even do a good job about it. Or that even the KC46 tanker is a disaster despite being based on the old 767. The V22 Osprey, etc. For decades Boeing has essentially relied on massive subsidies, via preferential allocation of government contracts(probably worth $100s of billion) even though objectively they seem to just keep screwing up all the time.

The UK was a founding member of Airbus together with France and Germany in 1970 - so Airbus has zero to do with the EU,as it predated even the UK entering the EEC.

Airbus and Bombardier employ 17000 people directly with many jobs in Wales and NI,and 1000s of more people are employed in British companies which supply them, and yet they seem to be fanboying for US aerospace companies which employ a fraction of that number of people in the UK. Many of our aerospace jobs in the UK are very integrated to European programs, and that was even before the EU even existed! Think of Concorde,Jaguar, etc which were co-developed with the French.

Many of those programmes relied on state support - RR and BAe wouldn't exist today if it wasn't for state support.

For example Germany ordered 38 Eurofighters to partially replace its Tornado IDS,and it meant £1.4 billion of work over here:
    https://www.pesmedia.com/bae-systems...orce-12112020/

The Eurofighter prototype was developed by BAe as the EAP.

Even our next generation Tempest fighter will have Sweden and Italy onboard, together with numerous French and German companies too. A number of those companies have links with Airbus too(MBDA),and Airbus is also involved with the French-German fighter program too.

If anything, the US government is trying its hardest to push the UK out of Japan's future stealth fighter program:

I suppose it's too much to hope for that a few posts in here might actually be about the National Cyber Force? Though I did like the "neon coloured" bit.

Maybe a mod could rename this thread "Another pointless pro- v. anti- Brexit thread" and start the NCF one again (with Ttask's neon crack included in it), just in case anyone is actually interested in the real thread subject.

I just thought it was funny that every release seems to mention international law now when I don't remember ever seeing that in the past. Didn't mean to upset anyone

There's not loads to say about the new department because its a bit secretive by nature. GCHQ seems to be overburdened and overlapping with MoD responsibilities. If anyone wanted to hear about what these kinds of groups might get up to I would recommend a listen to the dark net diaries podcast (ep 10 is fairly well related). Some interesting stories from this world with a narrative.

Looking forward to see if anyone from this department pop up on linkedIn

    1. The order for this "National Cyber Force (NCF)" was given by CIA.
    2. Its primary goal would be spying on us without any law restrictions.

Looks like the 77th battalion/GCHQ are on here too...Protecting Britain from 'terrorists'
Twas only a matter of time i suppose - since they are already embedded in all the major UK news outlets.

You would've thought that the Brexiteers would've actually read and had some basic comprehension of the Withdrawal Agreement, before trying to tear it up. Not only have they shot themselves in the foot regarding the EU. They are about to shoot themselves in the head, regarding the US and the Good Friday Agreement. This will not end well for us poor plebs.

when I was young and the internet was in its infancy virtually the only time you heard the word 'cyber' was in those old chat rooms where "wanna cyber" was the frequent request after a bit of small talk. I got images of that, but now adorned with Tron-like neon courtesy of your comment too.

    This poster seems really inappropriate...

    Absolutely.

I can only assume that they wanted to sound 'cool' by shortening "cybersecurity" (or perhaps with a space or hyphen) and thinking everyone would equate it to that, seemingly not realising that another meaning had already taken its place many years ago.

There's a classic bash.org quote that trolls an attempt at the pre-existing meaning after all.

    Yeah, OK Boomer...

That meaning has come and gone. Only old people remember the original inferrence of 'cyber', now. Those who are still young enough to be relevant just use webcams, nowadays!

well apparently the adult online world is one of the industries where profits have risen during lockdown. So maybe the decision makers aren't talking to the advertisers or some wires got crossed somewhere. I did wonder how quickly someone could suddenly retrain as a cyber specialist if that meant IT. Presumably a degree and a lot of learning needed if you're coming from a ballet background. Now if you're a flexible dancer and going into the other kind however...

(I'm not endorsing that as a career move, just before the hate starts)
