The CGT was the result of selling the 1-bed flat as, apart from the 6 months I lived in it, it was classed as a second property. I know I was fortunate to have a second property in the first place but, financially, the divorce has set me back massively so getting that huge bill for CGT just as the dust was settling was a kick in the proverbials (especially as I don't have thousands of pounds lying around in cash, it's all tied up in my current property). Oh, and they want the money by January

Looking at the positive, it was probably a slightly better bill than the potential of a much higher one if Rishi plays around with the CGT rules, as recently reported. I know that isn't much solace though, especially with an 18-28% charge on any theoretical gain you've made. I went through this 19 years ago and had a similar problem.

Same as all the other Black Fridays - Absolutely nothing.
It's mostly shops selling off old stock on the cheap, while others actually mark prices up.

I like to think of it as a psuedo-sale. I also bought nowt.

Got myself a Asus TUF 32inch monitor as i wanted the refresh rate 165mhz

A Lenovo 5 laptop with AMD 4800h and RTX 2060. It wasn't an amazing deal but I needed a laptop and it fit the bill. I was looking at the Asus 4800h range but they're all hamstrung with crap displays unless you pay a premium.

I'm sorry to hear that .... on several levels. I didn't intend to poke at what was, obviously, a rather tender spot. Sorry about that. It's not much consolation, but I suppose at least it gets those kicks out there, to be dealt with, and hopefully the New Year sees things move, as PeterB would have said, onwards and upwards.

Hey no worries, I can laugh about it all now- with the possible exception of the tax bill. And despite the ups and downs this year has brought I still have lots to be thankful for, including a job, and two sons who drive me batsh1t crazy but whom I adore

Id had my eye on the iiyama G-Master 34" UltraWide Quad HD 144Hz IPS 1ms Gaming Monitor for a while, seeing as the old TV I was using has now gone to my lad. Id been watching the prices for a little while hoping they would drop for Black Friday, but no. Picked it up at the price its been steady at for a month or so though, which was actually £50 cheaper than when I first saw it. Otherwise though, diddly squat!
