Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS

Looks like a close challenger to the AMD Ryzen 7 5800X.

Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
Hopefully it is,because that is the only way we can hope to get cheaper AMD CPUs. That is OFC assuming Intel decides to have a premium over what AMD is selling! :(
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
Quite laughable tbh, now it\'s "Intel is a close challenger"
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
So probably a competitor to a future AMD 5800 non-X which will likely have half the TDP. Hopefully this will result in Rocket Lake being pretty damn cheap.
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
Impressive what they can achieve on 14++++, but even if they reached performance parity TDP will be behind like HW90 said.

does it rely on an aircon unit to get it though? Let's hope not!
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
Unless they bring out 16c/32t+ option I'm still going AMD on my next build, for me 8c/16t just isn't enough of a 'long term' upgrade (I don't just game)

Anything over 8c is likely to get rather toasty on 14nm though.
Also, the even Intel have moved some mobile and server parts away from 14nm, big dies would leave them capacity constrained.
Plus the power usage would mean 16c or so would have to clock so low it won't be competitive.

Well to be fair that is kind of their own fault.... they could have used tsmc, even if just for 'high end' parts while they got themselves out the mess they're currently in instead of just going +++ on current stuff.
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
RAJA should 'simply' take the CEO seat or that company will be a green badge.
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
I am actually impressed on how far they have pushed this 14nm process. Unfortunately, this also means there will be plenty of heat :/
Re: Intel Rocket Lake 8C/16T CPUs spotted in Geekbench and AoTS
Hopefully we see the same kind of discount on these as we saw on cascade lake X (relative to the previous gen).
Although come to think of it, even with the discount cascade lake X is looking pretty steep compared to zen3 now...

Considering his massive tendency to over market and under deliver, Raja taking the CEO helm would be highly destructive for Intel tbh

more than not developing a new architecture in a timely fashion despite a distinct competitive advantage for an entire decade?

Tiger Lake's integrated Xe-LP GPU looks like a winner. 30% higher volume than projected.
That Xe-HP 42TFlop FP32 looks like a winner, too. Installed at Argonne.
That Xe SG1 4 Xe GPUs on a passively cooled card looks like a winner, too. Tencent agrees.

Considering the 10900k pulled 300 watts, I wonder if Intel will be going for 400 with this one. LOL
