And what happens when it is broken down by region?
That's only the mean, though.
You might have 99 people with 2meg connections, but my 1Gb would push their 'average' to almost 12Mb... but they certainly ain't getting that!
This is why I hate statistics...

I'd be happy with any improvement in my small town but my hopes of getting anything but Openreach copper in the next 5 years are low.
Dream on for me! Stuck on ADSL2+ with no fibre in sight!!
Live long and prosper.
I do remember your pain.
I was on 0.7Mbps for 16 years, while they kept promising me super fast fibre within "a few months", all while telling me about the amazingly fast fibre I could get if I just sign up now.
Even today, most companies try to sell me their [CENSORED], but upon checking their database find they can only offer me up to 2Mbps, with no guaranteed minimum... all while being barely a mile outside the largest town in the UK.
Fortunately GigaClear arrived in our area, and while it still took them half a decade to get their [mildly censored] together, I do finally have 900meg.
The good news there is that they're quite keen on rolling out to the more remote places and seem to have learned from all the difficulties they had with us.
So chin up and fingers crossed for you, chap!

When I visited my bank several ... um ... decades back, the cashier tried to flog me a new account which paid an 'average' interest rate of x%.
I asked what "average" meant? She was totally bemused by that. "Well, average average", she said.
"Okay,", I said, "do you mean 'mean', or median or mode? They are all averages, but very different calculations".
"And if you mean 'mean', do you mean arithmetic mean, harmonic mean or geometric mean?"
"Huh?", she said.
"Weighted or unweighted", I added.
Was I a bit mean?
But seriously, when they're trying to sell a service based on rate of return, they at least ought to be able to define how it's calculated, but nobody in that branch, from the cashier to the branch manager, could tell me what they meant by "average", and without knowing, their claim was .... errr ... meaningless. Sorry.

I moved from a fixed fibre line with Virgin, to a 4G set up with a T-Link Archer MR600 router this year.
My average download speed is around 29gb upload 20gb.
That compares with my old Virgin fibre of 20 down and only 2 upload very well.
I'm happy with that and even better, I get a response to any queries from Smarty the same day, unlike Virgin who made it incredibly difficult to contact them and sometimes simply did not respond at all.
The service is far cheaper too.
I'm lucky if I get 8mbps. The packages in my area are terrible
Our infrastructure is quite outdated. What's needed is Gigabit all of the country..a man can dream
