Good if they succeed, I guess.
"costs te world over $3.6 trillion per annum"... also typo in article. :undecided
Seems algorithms are the way of the future, sure it was someone's job to root out corruption before.
Re: Facebook may be forced to sell off Instagram and WhatsApp
Facebook upset that their nearly trillion dollar data snooping services are being eyeballed to being broken up...
Re: Facebook may be forced to sell off Instagram and WhatsApp
To be fair they should never have been allowed to get as big as they are or allowed to do the amount of snooping they do, same goes for google and the likes to.
Unfortunately, as is usually the case, there is/was no one who was tech savvy in the governments to realise how much of an issue it would become.

Being vaguely aware of how some anti money laundering software works I suspect its still going to need people to check it and collate it. This is just going to allow more to be picked up as when its searched by hand so much gets missed.
Re: Facebook may be forced to sell off Instagram and WhatsApp
When you report an obvious spam post... to which FB checks and states that there's nothing wrong withe the post. Report an obvious scam page (click like and share to win prize) and it's still there days later.
Yet, you post something to do with the U.S election or Corona (pointing towards an official statement) and you'll get FACT checked. I honestly think that they're out of control.
Additionally, why can't we have a feed that is based upon the last post sorted by date, instead of some generated 'top liked' view? It's almost like they want you to boost your posts by paying (oh, yeah, they do).
P.s. I had a fake Gary Barlows account (for a laugh) for over 4 years. They only caught it last week.
Re: Facebook may be forced to sell off Instagram and WhatsApp
P.s. This could all be smoke and mirrors.
"Oh, people are concerned about you guys over at FB. Let's keep the natives happy by making a few statements. They'll soon forget."

Many ways to get that kind of feed if you want to - but they know it's better for them if you don't! And yes, of course paid for posts are far far more likely to get you somewhere...

Given all the misinformation that gets spreads on social media, I don't see the problem with fact checking. And official statements shouldn't be subject to any less scrutiny either, especially with the last four years of Trump.
Regarding the article, I think forcing the sell off would be a good start. I'll know they're serious when they come for the likes of Amazon/AWS and Google.
Re: Facebook may be forced to sell off Instagram and WhatsApp
They should never, ever have been allowed to have taken so much control over the market (buying up competitors).
I can't see the US letting this happen, Facebook is invaluable to them, both as a snooping aid, and also as a propaganda machine.

...
Looking for facts in political posts on social media? Surely, SETI finding alien intelligence, or Yeti hunters capturing a live example, is more likely. :D

Ah, cool, thanks Dave. Shame that I don't bet at all. Dave... are you real?

Too much power is never good when it can't be controlled by people. Good to hear it, hope it will not be sold to Microsoft or Apple.
