Re: Asus support confirms GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB

I seen that announcement and wondered if this will just be a non Ti 3060 ( lower clocks but additional ram ? )

it does seem a little pointless if that's the case

I can see all the 3090 owners crying over paying £500 (or so) for 4 gig more of vram.

I can see the 3080Ti being even less available than any other Ampere card.

Strange that Nvidia does not have spies working at AMD or they are way below in the food chain. These products are a knee-jerk reflex after the 6800 line of GPUs from AMD.

Yes, I thought this a little strange too. Maybe they got a little complacent with their intel gathering? Though the other, more cynical approach is they knew exactly what AMD was doing, but realised they'd make more profit this quarter (coming quarter now I suppose) releasing cards in this order. 'Here's the amazing 3080! it's top dog and you can just about afford it! Oh good, you've bought one? Well here's the 3080 Ti! Giz yer money!".

Oh, and it keeps Nvidia in the headlines. AMD really need to release some press material about the 6700 and 6700 XT to grab a bit of attention.

It will be at a similar price with 3090. You are VERY wrong if you think it will be close in price with 3080.

It'll be ~£1k surely? So ~£500 less than 3090 as the above are saying.

So why is anyone stupid for buying a relatively inexpensive card compared to prior generation cards with 24GB of VRAM? I'd love to see the validation for that comment? The value of something is only what someone is willing to pay for it, if it had released at ~£2400 with the Titan RTX moniker, I doubt I would have looked. If it was the price of the Quadro RTX 8000? I definitely wouldn't have looked. Not all graphics cards are used for purely gaming, so having a card that has the extra VRAM but without the extra validation and support for certain usage scenarios is a welcome addition.

If the 3080 Ti model comes in around the £1000 mark, it'll be roughly about midway point between the 3080FE (£649 MRRP) and the 3090FE (£1399 MRRP). I could see it being slightly less than that though, optimistically maybe about £849, which when the non founders edition models release will probably be closer to the £1000 mark. Bear in mind the Founders Edition cards have been released in limited quantities compared to the AIB models, so the MRRP is very rarely paid in reality.

Let's be real, you can't own an RX 6000 card if you wanted to right now, 3090 owners may have overpaid but they at least have a device. 3080Ti will be just as good for a still silly price and compete with an empty shelf.

Re: Asus support confirms GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 20GB

Considering nvidia's finely tuned ability to shaft the consumer I'm super interested to see how much they're going to charge for 10gb RAM extra.

I keep flip flopping over the 3080 because the 10GB is such a problem especially going forward, with the next gen of games being native 4K and seeing higher resolution assets

I am still wondering if it was really necessary for Nvidia to incorporate tensor cores in their gaming GPUs looks like wasted silicon----and higher prices.

Depends if you think DLSS 2.0 is of any value. Not many games currently support it, like any graphics card purchase it depends entirely on what game you intend to play. It definitely isn't wasted when the cores are being used, the alternative is to continue to throw more shader cores at everything I guess.
