Ugh, the OS should be a platform to operate the machine and run things on top of, I wish they'd stop trying to integrate rubbish like this in to the OS and let people add it themselves via installable add ons if they want it.

    Yay! more junk to uninstall.
Do you ever get the feeling Microsoft has lost the plot?

There are people who will appreciate this feature. But don't expect to find them in here. Some people only look to see how features affect themselves/power users.

Re: Windows 10 Insider Preview adds news and interests to the taskbar

Was it windows ME or 98 that came with "active desktop" or some rubbish? The thing no one wanted and everyone switched off...

    THEY HAVE NOT LEARNT.

I'm quite tired of this. I tried migrating to Linux but critical and expensive hardware had no drivers. It's the same every time I try and move to Linux. I must say though, the regularity with which my VMs break doesn't inspire me. I currently have two of three operational Linux machines.

Edit: They've got this bleedin' "Meet Now" tripe running now as well. My PC is getting slower and slower and it's not me installing stuff....

yes. It's been downhill since 2010 tbh. Win7 and Office2010 were the last decent, robust and properly tested things I can recall them releasing. Sure there's been stuff since then but that's where I felt the rot set in. It just took a while to descend to the point it is now reaching.

Re: Windows 10 Insider Preview adds news and interests to the taskbar

    I'm calling it.

It's 'news and interests' for the Insider Preview.

'Advertisements, news and interests' for the general release.

Nah it won't be adverts, it it will be advertorials, news and interests.... you know that lovely new trend of an advert hidden in an article with the smallest of the small text saying it's a 'sponsored post' or some such...

Mixrosoft, when will you learn that when we go out and pay out our hard-earned wedge for a machine for us to do what we want, we don't want have it's processor time wasted serving junk like this that we didn't ask for and don't want.

So here's a News update for you .... kindly take this kind of garbage, fold it into a long tube, set fire to one end and stick the other right ...... beeeeeep. Click.

Hello? Hello? I think it's a bad line, I can't make out what you're saying. You would like Microsoft to add a link to YouTube clips of smouldering garbage? Done! Saracens pc will have widgets to the maga account...

Am curious who will use this kind of feature...it almost feels like they are slowly turning the layout into a smartphone lol.

I don't mind as long as it doesn't become annoying to deal with in the future.

More sh*t nobody asked for. So glad I switched to LTSC 2019 which lacks most of the crap from the regular versions (cortana, edge, the entire store, forced feature updates that break stuff every half year, ...) from the getgo
