While this will no doubt be popular, it looks like the smallest increase over the previous generation seen so far. That they felt they had to compare ray-tracing performance to a card which doesn't even have any hardware for ray-tracing speaks volumes. Nice to see 12GB VRAM though.

A bit useless to have a whopping 12GB of memory on a rtx3060 card since it will most likely be used for 1080p or 1440p resolutions. Even more surprising is that rtx3070 has only 8GB of memory.

unfortunately more ram with reduced bandwidth is not always that helpful

the rtx2060 super was $399 at launch and going from the numbers given so far we're looking at something with similar performance for $329 would be good
I wonder if that price is before or after the new US tariffs? https://www.techpowerup.com/276858/g...ents-to-follow

very nice PR blurb but unless they can back it up with supply . . . meh!

Oh, I'm sure it will launch in late Feb. "Arrive" is such a strong word these days.

Giving it 12GB but clearly targeting 1080p doesn't make sense to me. Also it looks worse in terms of value compared with the 3060Ti if you compare MSRP to performance. I was hoping for 2080 performance at £300 for this generation and the 3060Ti was close at £369 for the FE. This looks like a major downgrade in performance for £300.

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 arrives late Feb

Some sites are reporting 17gbps memory on these, so bandwidth isn't terrible, even across a 192bit bus. I think 6GB would be too little for 1440p gaming and the likes of FS2020.

Yes, which would be for 1080p gaming.

    Only matches the 2060 Super?

DLSS at 1080p means something like 800p native and upscaled, right?

    Thrilling.

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 arrives late Feb

So it seems the 60 series tier now is essentially starting at £300,and the 50 series is probably pushed up to the £175~£275 tier. Its going to be great when the RTX4060 or RTX5060 ends up being nearly £400.

I really hope there is a cheaper 6GB model which slots underneath it.

People also forget Turing was a terrible increase in performance per pricing tier too.

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 arrives late Feb

The nvidia site says 60 series starting at £299 and if that is the price it's a little on the high side for the 'relative' performance.... it should be closer to £250 imo but to be fair gpu's are all overpriced at the moment so....

I do however like the higher amount of vram, feel 8GB is a bit too low in this day and age.

Think it would be a nice card for a '1080p' user that doesn't need cutting edge but the prices don't seem to match that type of user....

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 arrives late Feb

Strange card. You'd think they'd go with the 6GB version so they've got twice as much RAM kicking around for more cards as you're going to hit a shader limit way before the VRAM limit is even a consideration.

'Obvious' reasoning here is for marketing versus AMD, but ultimately the unnecessary doubling up of VRAM results in a more expensive card for us.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

If it's for marketing vs AMD then it's also a marketing own goal vs their own 10GB 3080. They said 10GB was enough for 4K gaming at that launch. So do we, the unwashed masses, need more than 10GB VRAM or not??
Maybe this 12GB 3060 is part of their 8K gaming range slotting under the 24GB 3090...

That would need to be a very cheap card, it just doesn't feel like it is enough these days.

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 with 12GB GDDR6 arrives late Feb

Perhaps I'm a newbie on these things, but why does a 3060 have 12gb while a 3060 ti and 3070 have 8gb? Is there any point in a 3060 having 12gb? I need to buy a gpu but that's confusing me, especially since I am going to primarily play VR at around 4k resolution...
