Me and the Wife loved playing Portal 2 together. It's just a shame that there wasn't really any replayability.

Acorn, an asynchronous VR multiplayer game is a lot of fun. One person is in the VR headset and is in a God mode and has to protect their nuts on their tree, whereas everyone else is on their phones as squirrels and are trying to steal those nuts by running or sneaking up to the tree.
My all time favourite couch co-op has to be Speedball 2. Shame they never managed a decent reboot.
Not a co-op game but me and my mates love drunken Nidhogg, it gets very competitive.
Nidhogg can be a blast, I like how the tides can turn so quick.
Human fall flat is a great co-op. Also as others have said overcooked is good too. I haven't played co-op for a long time but prophunt used to be a blast. I believe there's actually a game based on the garry's mod version called witch-it that looks half decent.
Never played co op.
Nintendo Land on the Wii U had some fantastic co-op games that were only really possible due to the tablet. For example, a hide and seek game where the person hiding played on the tablet while everyone else ran around looking on the TV. The Switch seems a bit of a downgrade in not being able to use both at the same time.
Any of the older lego games. Don't require any skill and you can't really die so suitable for all ages and skill levels (My wife barely plays and kids are very young so these are games we can all play). I'm talking Harry Potter 1&2 and Indiana jones - The newer ones just aren't as much fun (Incredibles/lego movie 2) as they've introduced too many mechanics and made combat hard for the inexperienced.
Back in the day there were a lot more games to co-op or play together on the same couch. I used to love playing with my brother Micro Machines 2: Turbo Tournament, Road Rash 2, Sonic 2, Robocop vs Terminator and Lethal Enforcers.
These days I don't play co-op. Some games that are probably good are Sonic Mania, driving games, board games like Ticket to Ride, Talisman. I've also heard Overcooked is fun co-op, though never played it co-op myself.
Also apparently Divinity: Original Sin 2 can be played split-screen. Who knew!
