I'm just about to buy a i7 10900 and a asus maximus formula z490 no what. Think I'll go for the 490 as I don't think there will be that much difference when the new one comes out.

Must be one of the few admitting they are looking at Intel right now...

Think it's a case this board and intel have never let me down. To be honest in the CPU area I have never tried it. Not saying I never will though.

If this water cooling gets any further you're gonna need a plumber rather that a PC tech for repairs. lol.

Does mobo matter much for gaming performance?

The short answer in the grand scheme of things is not really, and even when so, not by much usually.

However, the real point of making sure you get a decent mobo if you are an enthusiast with gaming in mind is simply down to the quality of VRM chips and also how many power phases they have. If you get the cheapest compatible motherboard you can find that is more marketed towards office use, overclocking will usually be out of the question due to lower quality VRM chips which will usually have fewer phase changes too, what that means is, less stable voltages and higher temperatures. So if you run an overclocked CPU in there (or in some cases push the highest CPU it can support to its max), then it's probably going to overheat and crash a lot compared to a premium board.

    TBH, it's usually fine.
However, I'm not a fan of monoblocks, as it means a complete strip-down if you need to change or repaste something... and this latest offering looks more like a 1980s VCR!!

I'm also not a fan of the styling on these things, lately. All diagonal lines and slashy RGB.... Mobo designers need to readdress their aesthetics, and hire a new designer!

Do you know what I'm not seeing? I'm not seeing any chipset fans. PCIe4 and no chipset fans. So, AMD, wtf are you making us have them on x570 huh?

Anyone know how many pcie lanes these get?

GIGABYTE’s patent, Thermal Guard II, is a double sided heat dissipation solution that provides optimal cooling to the PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSD modules to prevent thermal throttling under high-speed operation.
So they have the same three M2 slots at pcie4 and raid etc but they can cool these without a fan so, again, where are the X570 fanless solutions apart from that £700 Aorus affair?
