No ROG phone for me, poor software support and a huge price tag. maybe I'm not the target audience!

If it costs more than my car did, or what my next graphics card will when they're finally plentiful enough, then it's not worth worrying about.

I think there are a few issues with phones. To make it worth upgrading, they need more features or better stuff and we've got to the point where the low hanging fruit has been taken and any significant advance needs serious investment. Then they have also established what the market can bear. Combine that with older devices mysteriously slowing down over time and you push people into an upgrade as their old device is no longer sufficient, the new device is demonstrably better and they have established that they can extract from you.

For myself, it's quite a simple problem. It has to be really interesting and worthwhile for me to invest in something really expensive these days. I bought the Sony P990i so long ago because no one else was doing anything close to it. Same with the Palm Pre. But now the format has been optimised so much that all phones look the same (to me anyway) and they all are so close in features and performance that, barring significant problems, you're not going to find anything really different or interesting.

I fully expect that my next phone will be this one I'm using. With a battery refresh and flashed (degoogled) firmware. I was going to do that last time, but managed to get a new phone for a price I found reasonable.

I'm still on a Huawei Mate 20 x. It hasn't slowed down. Thankfully. Nothing worth moving to, once you get used to and like the size of the X.

Reminds me of the days I used to walk around with a CB radio and two giant lead acid batteries in my backpack.

    I believe I was about 8 or 9.

The 4500 MAH battery in my phone last days, would last longer if i was able to delete more useless stuff on my MI9 phone, a daily screen / phone time of 5 - 10 minutes do that.
IMHO If you can not last a day on your phone,,,,, you need to get help.
Sure i look at my PC screen for most of the day, but thats fully committed, i am not roaming society like some zombie.

And even with as little as i use my phone, i HATE my self when i pull it out of the pocket to look at it fully knowing there are nothing to look at, and i even have ring tones and vibrate off too, so i have to look to see if anyone have called, but thankfully they dont as the 8 people that have my number know and respect my feelings towards phones.

Re: Asus looks for smartphone boost with ROG Phone 5, ZenFone Mini

It's amazing how they let these phones go "obsolete" and stop supporting and updating them. It is just like the television where somehow they all go to commercial at the same time. Amazing that while they are in competition with each other, they still find a way to join forces.
