Must admit that these "virtual" (well at least to your normal everyday gamer) GPU releases, are starting to get very very boring. Was looking to upgrade my GPU at some point, but now going to wait until much later in the year and see how the land lies. Was pretty shocked to see how much (for example) 3080's had jumped up in price compared to the original MRRP

    Life..............
    Live long and prosper.

Not everywhere. cough https://forums.hexus.net/graphics-ca...ml#post4283696 I managed to preorder a 3070 today at what I think (hope) is/was rrp. The founders editions are definitely still rrp when they come up.

That comment at the end re crypto mining potential is worrying. These will get snaffled up quicker than you can blink if that's true.

So the 3070 is approx a 2080ti in performance
    the 3060ti approx a 2070 super-2080
and the 3060 only a 2060 super but with 1.5x the RAM buffer. That's not amazing really. It's a good budget card, but they should just have given the whole 30xx stack more memory, 12GB certainly up to 3070 where they're still using GDDR6 and without the heat issues of the GDDR6x in the 3080 upwards.

RTX3070 RRP is £469 for the FE model just for reference. It is £369 for the RTX3060TI FE,and £299 for the RTX3060.

    Edit!!

[QUOTE]Expect performance similar to the GeForce RTX 2060 Super.[/QUPTE]

Only 10% to 15% faster than an RTX2060 or RX5600XT which were under £300 quite often??

and that's why they're so popular. I paid more than that for my non-FE AIB (assuming it actually arrives) but it is one of the better ones according to this very in depth look at why certain 3070 cards are perhaps better picks than others across the range:

Definitely if you're looking at one of the cheaper AIB models you're better off saving the money and getting the FE model.

My main issue is the RRP of the RTX3080 is around £649,and some of these aftermarket RTX3070 GPUs are a bit too close in price to the RTX3080!! Remember even £470 is a fair chunk for a 70 series GPU,so the low £500~£550 region is what you should pay at most for an aftermarket RTX3070 GPU IMHO. The RTX3080 is after all nearly 25% faster and has 25% more VRAM too.

Also, the RTX3060 looks a bit underpowered if Hexus is right and it matches an RTX2060 Super.

Doesn't the 3080 with its gddr6x run hotter and noisier though? from what I've seen in reviews it's louder which put me off. Plus it's a case of get what you can at the moment. I've tried so many more budget friendly cards like the gaming X trio etc in 3060ti and 3070 flavours and been hammered by bots so I wasn't really expecting to land this one at all tbh. I even tried to get a 3080 in this range but it was another £200+ and I just can't spend that much. The £3070 is more than I wanted to spend already.

I agree with your numbers but it never sold for £550 even on release day. Lowest I've seen is £600 for that model on 5th Nov. Currently the best I've seen is £690 which is 15% increase since release (and most places have it even more than that which is a joke). I'll see if it materialises and weigh up whether to return it. I thought I was preordering for late March which would have given plenty of time for things to settle.

My mate got a AIB RTX3060TI for £420 IIRC late last year. £600 for an aftermarket RTX3070 is nowhere worth it even at RRP! The FE is actually quite solid, and many aftermarket versions are not simply worth the additional price unless the weird cooler has an issue with your case. Personally I wouldn't pay £700 for an RTX3070 GPU,especially a GPU with only 8GB of VRAM. That is essentially 50% higher than RRP! Especially as the RTX3070 is a salvaged part, and apparently OEMs might be getting an RTX3070TI 16GB at some point!

I would just be patient and wait for the RTX3060TI/RTX3070 FE to appear back in stock on the Nvidia website - it links directly back to Scan who then make a time limited webpage until stock runs out. These will be sold at RRP. I mean you could always probably hold onto it for a while until you get a cheaper GPU,and probably sell it for a profit.

Having said that I am using a GTX1080 and I would rather use my old GTX960 4GB(if the GPU has a problem) than pay scalpers prices for GPUs.

Re: Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 12GB rumoured to launch 25th Feb

The problem for me, is that the only meaningful upgrade from my 1080ti, is really a 3080 and these are not only like finding hens teethh... but going for silly money.

Not going to sweat it though. More of an upgrade itch, than a need to have.

Hopefully things in general will settle down (COVID/mining etc permitting) in another 6 months or so. TBC
    Live long and prosper.

we seriously need intel to enter the GPU space and teach these guyz a lesson. RAJA we don't care if its 14nm or 8nm as long as its affordable and competes with 2080 super we will buy quickly.

Well XE DG1 doesn't inspire. Even the full 96 EU in a card version only reached GT1030 performance and drivers were so very very unstable Igor was barely able to run anything:
    https://www.igorslab.de/en/set-with-...nchmarks-leak/

DG2 is meant to be 512 EUs which assuming near perfect scaling should have it around RX5600 / GTX1070 level.

Not to mention that Intel GPUs will be taking up fab share that could otherwise be going to AMD/nVidia, so will make the situation worse rather than better.

Indeed. It seems that TSMC are so far ahead of everyone else as well now. Data from https://www.anandtech.com/show/16463...xy-s21-ultra/2 makes it look very much like the performance of Samsung 5nm has only caught up with TSMC 7nm.

Before the intel shills jump on the "TSMC 7nm = Intel 10nm" bandwagon - Intel's transistor density for their initial 10nm is about the same as TSMC 7nm, however their performance/voltage characteristics are like TSMC 10nm.

i.e. the things that consumers care about TSMC 10nm ~ Intel 10nm - TSMC 7nm is definitely better by a substantial margin than Intel 10nm

Also interestingly Samsung 8nm is actually Samsung 10nm++ or 10nm +++
    Their 5nm is actually 7++

This goes some way to explaining their 5nm performance but also brings an interesting point. Nvidia using Samsung 8nm (a 10nm derived tech) are performance and power competitive with AMD using TSMC 7nm despite having more raytracing capability.

Having said that I am using a GTX1080 and I would rather use my old GTX960 4GB(if the GPU has a problem) than pay scalpers prices for GPUs.
i think you're right. Interesting to see those same stores today are flogging them/worse cards for £100 more already. It didn't ship yesterday so I'll leave the order live and keep trying for better/cheaper. The good + affordable AIB 3080 has been ratched up another £50 in the last two days. It's getting silly now

Not going to sweat it though. More of an upgrade itch, than a need to have.

Hopefully things in general will settle down (COVID/mining etc permitting) in another 6 months or so. TBC
Yea I think if I had a 1080ti I would just ignore the situation for 6 months or so! But it's a bit harder with only a 1060! I could get a better cpu to squeeze a bit more life out of it I suppose.

Otherwise just got to keep playing the FE drop game, as like cat the fifth, I wouldn't pay more than about £550 for a 3070 or £750 for a 3080. Seen a load of 6800xt's for £1k this week at genuine retailers and they still sell them!
