I imagine it's for the "need a home office pc" brigade to let the OEM's meet demand. They just need something to run a couple of screens and power a few zoom calls, maybe if it's really crazy do some basic photo editing. 1050 perfectly able to handle that. It might also hint at delays for anything below a 3060 for the time being if it allows the fabs to divert more time to supply 3060 and above.

Yes I think your last point seems most likely to me - Linus mentioned it on his WAN show last night. If they only have limited wafer supply for the 8nm, they'll use it for 3060s+ which they make greater margins on, and just serve the lower end market 1050ti's instead!
I suppose it might mean supply of 3060+ may be better than it would have been otherwise, so perhaps a tiny silver lining!
