I'm with Eclipse (KComm nee Kingston Telecommunications, on on old consumer contract, since ye olde days of half a megabit, as they don't seem to do them for anyone outside Hull it seems anymore). Last time was a couple of years ago, though out of the twenty odd years (and a house move) with them I don't think it's been more than five times at the most.

Recently they wanted to bump me up to the maximum bandwidth available, which is ca. 350MBit, but I refused. I can't stomach paying more for a recently unreliable service and abysmal hardware they've given me.

I cannot word it enough, how bad their Hub 3.0 is. Unfortunately my ASUS router died a year ago (Wifi 5 was gone - a bane of ASUS routers, apparently), so now I'm connected via RJ45 to the router for all 4 PCs at home, and try not to get an aneurism when I have to use Wi-Fi.

The switch to RJ45 made me reluctant to pay over £200 quid for a router that would satisfy my needs. So am I happy? No. Do I have an alternative? No.
I have the 4.0 and it is not any better. I have the max 1gig and they don't treat you any better.

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

Like many here we have Virgin cable, not long since we have upgraded to 500Mbs. I cannot remember the last time it went down fully. We have had some glitches that lasted no longer than a minute or two but generally it's been fine. However Virgin customer service is a contradiction in terms. Rubbish is bulling it up. The roads round here are starting to be cabled for City Fibre and as soon as it comes down our road I'll be changing the internet. Virgin really can be awful to deal with.

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

I can't remember the last time my internet failed completely. My logs tell me that every 4-6 months it goes down for an hour or less somewhere between midnight and 3 a.m. but I'm not normally awake to notice.

I'm on PlusNet's FTTC and normally get ~70/16

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

With Zen, about a couple of weeks ago, had it a fair few times where it goes down for an hour or so at some random AM time. Check their site and there is usually some sort of 'maintenance' which I never get told about in advance.... my ends fine, still got sync, just no IP being given to me usually.

The thing is I had less down time with my previous supplier (albeit adsl rather than fibre) in the entire time I was with them (10 years give or take) than I have with zen per year, my old supplier just couldn't get anywhere near on price though.... I wouldn't mind if I was told in advance but I'd prefer some 'redundancy' in place to stop maintenance downtime.

This morning. It's every day with me, Plusnet. There's an issue with the cabinet/exchange/squirrel-eaten cables that nobody will bother investigating.

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

Couple months back, Openreach accidentally cut me off. We moved our workshop to a bigger unit, next door to our old one. Few weeks after the move two blokes with wire cutters walked past the window, 30 seconds later the broad band goes down. They were there to cut the line at our old unit and claimed they couldn't possibly have cut off the new line.

    Am with post office

It was down for about 24 hours a week or two ago, but thats the first downtime in the past year, otherwise their service has been great and at a great price!

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

Back home, November it was down 2 days when someone hit a telephone pole with their car up the way, and it dropped twice more over the end of December for some hours and then a day. Aside from that all good.

Where I've moved to, the BT router used by othera in the house is useless with WiFi and craps out wireless all the time, making it hard for me to say when the internet is actually down- but I believe last time was 2nd week of Jan. Down for 18 or so hours.

Last time my internet was down was early 2020 when I was still with TalkTalk (went down every few days for a couple of years). Switched to BT and it's not been down since

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

Can't remember the last time (at least 2 years). The connection may be distinctly mediocre speedwise (35Mb up/8Mb ish down) but it is damn reliable. I've been with numerous providers and all the same. EE did cut the speed to 20Mb down but I switch to vodafone and get 35Mb again.

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

VM so up and down like a yoyo. Mostly just slowdown / odd bits but had 8 day downtime a few months ago. Of course they put hoops in place for compensation. Cheeky sods.
Now have a Three 4G router as backup (£17 a month) that I got pre-covid to make sure I could work at home okay (but main justification was wife not happy if internet down). Have a Unifi Dream Machine Pro so failover pretty seamless.
