Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

Virgin Media for 20 years currently on 350Mb. in all that time if I added up my downtime, maybe 2 hours total.
That is why although I work for an ISP, I pay for my broadband rather than have a free connection with my Employer.

3 times this year but only for like 5 mins at a time. Everytime due to power cuts in the area

Re: QOTW: When was your broadband last down?

I'm not entirely sure, but I think it was probably over a year ago at least.

If I recall correctly, any downtime had usually taken place (when it did happen) in the early hours and due to the router/modem not getting a response to its automatic IP lease renewal requests, until a bit later (usually up to an hour later) when the IP renewal worked again.

I think proper downtime has been much rarer, other than the few times that a power outage happened, but that was my power it took out so obviously I had no ability to use devices (other than phone with mobile data) at that point anyway and that had nothing to do with the ISP.

Recently they wanted to bump me up to the maximum bandwidth available, which is ca. 350MBit, but I refused. I can't stomach paying more for a recently unreliable service and abysmal hardware they've given me.

I cannot word it enough, how bad their Hub 3.0 is. Unfortunately my ASUS router died a year ago (Wifi 5 was gone - a bane of ASUS routers, apparently), so now I'm connected via RJ45 to the router for all 4 PCs at home, and try not to get an aneurism when I have to use Wi-Fi.

The switch to RJ45 made me reluctant to pay over £200 quid for a router that would satisfy my needs. So am I happy? No. Do I have an alternative? No.
I have the 4.0 and it is not any better. I have the max 1gig and they don't treat you any better.
Darn it, I did a bit of research on the 4.0 after your post. I guess spending extra dosh on an ASUS router is unavoidable.

Looks like I jinxed myself, as a few minutes ago my connection was down for about 30 seconds judging from the router logs.

Thankfully not a big deal for that short of a time, but it still counts.
