why? A 3070 is approx 2080ti performance in a lot of cases. Even a high-end one at the moment is £700. Are you honestly saying that if you could have got a new, with warranty, 2080ti for £700 in July 2020 you'd have said that was a bad deal?

Pretty much, IMO 20 series GPUs were way overpriced for what they were, high-end cards always attract a premium though so comparing a last gen high-end card to a current gen mid-range is perhaps a bit unfair.

I'd take the 3060 for my nearly 8 year old Haswell rig as it's final upgrade. I'd prefer a 1660S as I don't need more GPU performance for such and old rig but they're so overpriced at the moment that there's no point.

As for making more 2060s, fine, so long as they're $200 max - otherwise the performance boost (and double VRAM) of the 3060 justifies the extra cost. Any more than that and I'd be more than happy to wait.

bringing the questions in here from the retail thread:

Can someone explain to me why the 3070 only has 8gb but the 3060 uses 12?

1) AMD. Nvidia simply didn't expect AMD to rock up with 16GB cards.
2) mining. Low cost, reasonably efficient mining cards with lots of VRAM. They are selling these for the miner $ make no mistake.
3) They should be releasing a 3080ti round about now with 12GB too, but have delayed it.
4) there will also be a 6GB version, those will come later, so snaffle the 12GB versions before they disappear.

I'll be very surprised if they don't flaunt the "MSRP of x" line for the 2060s but then they end up being double that (or more) when in the hands of retailers
