6GB VRAM feels a bit too low these days, but excited to see what sort of performance the 6700XT offers - that might be just about the right spot for me

That's shocking to be honest. My rx 480 has 8gb and sure it rarely needs all of it but why go backwards? 8 would have made more sense.
    Trust

Hmm for that bitrate 8 would have been hard I think. As far as I see it the big Navi chip has 8 32-bit memory controllers and two of those are deactivated for the 6700 XT and the 6700 so maybe they thought 6gb would be better because you get 32-bit for a single chip in that case 1gb which is also the cheapest gddr6 variant. Same as with the 6700 XT you have 2gb for one controller. I guess they wouldn't want to put up with the same controversial stuff the 970 had with the 3.5gb + 512mb. They could have gone with 9gb tho but I don't know how common 1.5gb gddr6 chips are. Don't quote me on any of that I don't know what im talking about and correct me if i'm wrong.

Oh don't get me wrong - I'm sure they have reasons however its enough to put me off (Although to be honest I would be looking a 6700 XT as a minimum and I'm probably waiting until the 7000 series is out so supplies will be better.)

Yeah i wouldnt see much sense going from a 480 to a 6700. Especially when the 6700 is probably only targeting new E-Sports titles and AAA games at 1080p. Waiting for the 7000 series might be an option but nobody knows for sure if availability will even get better in the future. We can only pray.
