Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs

Thus selling these mining GPUs should not affect GeForce RTX 30 graphics card supplies.

WHY not make ASIC for them?

I'm well away from mining but I'm sure I seen elsewhere there aren't any ASICs for Ethereum, which most people mine on GPUs?

Oh there are ASICs for etherium, but you have to have over 4GB of ram and are limited on memory performance making an ASIC not so faster than a GPU that GPUs become obsolete
Re: Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs
So 50HX = 2080 Super
and 90HX = 3080?
Re: Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs
This will be a very interesting launch, if they want these cards to succeed, best to get some samples to prominent youtube miners to do tear-downs and optimisations on, and if they do indeed perform well compared to Ampere gamer cards, this could help out the gaming community, esp as Crypto has had a shellacking in the last 2 weeks with 30+% drops on some coins.
Re: Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs
Any idea on how the pricing is looking and whether these are more viable to miners than GPUs?

At the moment, they are looking unappealing to miners i would suggest. The power efficiency in terms of hash rate per watt is about half that of the 3060Ti and 3070. And, not close to the 3080 & 3090.
Combine that with no resale value. These cards will have to be dirt cheap to be 'appealing' buys.
Having said that, given the non existant supply of GPUs. These will prbably sell well at first anyway. As, they could be all that's available for a while.
But, don't expect these to have any impact on miners seeking cards above the 3060.
There's still the issue that it seems to be reported that these cards are only limiting Etherium?? Although, the most popular thing to mine on GPUs, it's certainly not the only one. So, i dubious as to whether this will even impact the 3060s availability and it's desirability with miners.

Completely agree, if there is viability t mine other DAGs without the nerfstick these will find a use.

Ah, but all the 3000 series cards are supposed to be getting re-released after a good clubbing with the crypto nerf bat.
Not that I'm expecting the nerf bat to be all that effective. Not compared to the continuous decline in bitcoin price eroding confidence.

Not sure I can see it happening to be honest, isn't in Nvidia's best interests as it will likely cost money, shareholders don't tend to like that.

Crypto currency only happens in bubbles though, what Nvidia really can't afford to do is hack off their long term cash cow gamer market such that when the crypto bubble bursts again and Nvidia wave their latest shiny cards at us, we're all waving our PS5 and Oculus Quests back at them going "nah thanks. we're good".
Because honestly, I'm surprised how good my Quest 2 is, so if there is a Quest 3 out before we get gpu availability sorted there might be a lot of people not bothering with their PC upgrade. My son managed to get a PS5, so he's basically lost to PC gaming for the foreseeable.
Re: Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs
I watched a youtuber refer to a statement by nvidia about how the nerf wouldn't efffect any cards already in market.
It's not going to happen.
I've tried to have a look for the video, but it wasn't someone i normally watch and can't remember who it was.

An important factor in the crypto bubble theory is that when they burst the market gets flooded with totally fine second hand cards, usually at great value as well, which will bring new players into the market. It all balances out in the end either way.

Whereas with the CMP cards, when the bubble bursts these will just potentially end up in landfill...
Re: Nvidia CMP 40HX and CMP 30HX confirmed to be Turing GPUs
That's more likely to happen when the next gen cards come out.
Crypto currency is so volitile. If the price goes down, your better to carry on mining and only cash out when the price goes back up.
(assuming your finances allow for that)
