Does Virgin not throttle speeds?

I've been on TalkTalk 60mb/17mb for a year or so now. Being upgraded to FTTP 500/75 on the 12th of April. Looking forward to it. Totally unlimited regardless of what you're doing.

Ah ok. My mate is on virgin and said his p2p is throttled at certain times of the day. In the past, he has been downloading some game update .torrents and has found his speed capped.

Maybe this has changed now.

Might be congestion? Virgin haven't used traffic management for a while now.

Virgin say on average internet peak demand is now 10 times what it was 12 months ago....

How did you get this speed? I just looked on their website, and the only upgrade available to me is 200Mbps.

Well, I'll hopefully have my 500/75 turned on in April - 12th. I will report what the actual speeds are like. For me, upload is more important and it's a real shame these speeds are still much slower even when using FTTP.

It's a consumer product - they mostly download more than upload. If you want faster uploads then a business package is the way to go with the vast increase in reliability and price

Many other countries just offer the upload as standard. It's really just the UK that is lagging behind. I do expect this to change going forward.

Just as many keep it asymmetric too. We're no different than many - as said if you want faster upload speeds you can get a different/business package. We were hampered for years and still are by the whole monopoly of BT back in the day

I had a quick look at Zen internet business packages but those uploads (unless I am looking at the wrong section) top out at 50mbps.

My new package will be 75mbps upload. It's the fastest that TalkTalk offered at this point. Maybe they will provide 120 upload going forward. I think that would be enough. But sending those HD/4K videos to the family during lockdown (not the rubbish compressed ones via whatsapp) takes ages haha.

Just had a "free" upgrade to 600 meg...
To be fair, where I live we have had far less problems with Virgin than the other adsl and fibre offerings who have had major outages most weeks this year so far...

How did you go about doing that please? Wouldn't mind a free upgrade myself.

Why 4k? Because I have an S21 Ultra and I just record all my stuff in 4k as the quality is noticeably better than HD.

I did nowt except talk to them about a separate issue. They have just realigned the speeds here - so 100 meg is now 200, 300>400, 500>600 and we have just got 1 gig here in Warwick
