Given that our government is stuffed full of corrupt lying incompetents, i'll be beyond suprised if they managed even one of those ten goals...
I'll give each of these a t-shirt size of XXXXL
haha gigabit outlay in 2021 when other countries got 10gbps on mind
also at what cost to the end user? atm virgin is far out of reach for many with gigabit speed costing more than electricity + gas bill combined
Isn't that the truth. I live in an average small town. No FTTP (and none in sight - I keep a close eye on ISPreview/thinkbroadband) and even when they do finally get round to doing it'll cost about the same as my wife's car PCP (£87 for a 3 year old Skoda Rapid) for a decent speed. As for 4G I've barely the signal for 8Mb in my house so that's even worse.
I've been working on some VMs for work and the current internet access in the UK just makes it painful.
This is just BS for the papers to lap up. I won't believe it until I see any progress.
Gigabit broadband... "suuuuuure".
Based on the fact that we've had absolutely zero increase in network speed for the last 10 years, at least where I live, I'm not exactly optimistic about this one. And no, I do not live in a rural village somewhere out in the sticks - far from it.
Roll out gigabit and 5G - going to happen anyway... eventually.
Build a tech savvy nation - vague, nebulous, easily blagged.
Fuel and new era of start-ups and scale-ups - hopefully some kind of government funding and business resources
Championing free and fair digital trade - COPYWRITE LAAAAWWWWWWWW
Levelling up digital prospetiry across the UK - meaningless waffle.
Unlock the power of data - meaningless waffle (unless they're on about a Farcebook / Tw*tter style mass monitoring campaign)
Keep the UK safe and secure online - so more blocked sites and banning anything that isn't safe. Thanks.
Unleash the transformational power of tech and AI - so, what has been happening since the industrial revolution plus current buzzword? Victorians had steam as theirs.
Leading the global conversation on tech - more waffling, but this time to the world.
Using digital innovation to reach net zero - you mean updating all nuclear systems to full digital platforms and destroying the human race? Well, at least Greta will be chuffed.
"haha gigabit outlay in 2021 when other countries got 10gbps on mind"
Well if you can get 1 gbit on fiber you can probably also get 10, unless of course they put some cobber and some stupid old technology at the very end of that fiber.
Also while you as a mere mortal here can get 5 gbit on fiber, then its not really worth it.
I have been on 1 gbit for a few years, and really it is rare you get full DL speeds anywhere, hell get 500 mbit and you should be happy.
10 gbit,,,,,, maybe if it come with a 10 gbit network card, cuz not many have a 10 gbit plug in their computer, hell 2.5gbit are the latest rage in motherboards it seem.
My computer do have a 10 gbit plug,,,,,, and two 1 gbit. :) so from my perspective i say bring it on.
BUT ! as others have mentioned, this is probably just BS talk from your leaders, just there to show good intentions and capture voters.
That really is meaningless drivel isn't it. But can you come up with anything worse if you tried..
Each child in the UK to get a free Cryptokitty?
Perhaps I shouldn't give them ideas.
I WILL VOTE FOR ANY PARTY OFFERING FREE CRYPTOKITTY.
That is all.
Our 10 Tech Priorities, with a view to getting the UK back on its feet in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. Very, very ambitious plans of UK Gov.
I am not aware of any post covid plans here in Denmark, but if anyone come up with anything free, i will pass knowing i will get to pay one way or another for it.
BUT ! we have just started building the worlds longest submerged tunnel. ( not to the UK but maybe that is up next )
And soon we will have / build huge barges ( well i hope so ) in the north sea, which they call energy islands.

We are / have been for a long time, all over the digital ball, often too much for my liking.
It's certainly possible even if the plans are vague.
The USA is losing its mind thanks to the spread of intersectional woke ideology throughout its education systems, its all over colleges public and private (which are even worse) and now being pushed on childrens schools.
This is shredding the underlying principles & practices that made America a tech powerhouse because woke ideology is anti-enlightenment and lots of clueless administrators buy into it when faced with the woke mob.
This will tear apart the USA tech industry in the long run.
So what this means is so long as the UK government can keep most of the education systems from going down the same path then the UK has a real chance of building a tech industry as the USA falters.
