Yup, and the mining nerf will show people moaning about miners that its not them that are causing the stock shortages..

You mean like the previous two mining booms, when in the 1st one there was shortages of AMD/ATI GPUs and price rises, and the last one a few years ago when there were shortages and price rises of GPUs? I still remember in 2017,people could sell a £200~£250 RX480 for nearly £400. I am not sure why you think miners have zero effect on dGPU supply for gamers, when it happened twice before.

Nvidia itself sold at least $175 million worth of dGPUs direct to miners:
    https://wccftech.com/nvidia-allegedl...pus-to-miners/

That was nearly 4 months ago,so even soon after the RTX3000 launch Nvidia(and its partners) was diverting supplies to miners.

Despite the RTX3060 being nerfed for some currencies,a lot of others run fine so miners are using them to mine them in anticipation of them rising in value.

The Nvidia shortages of dGPUs to retail is definitely being affected by mining. AMD,OTH it's because its using lots of its wafers for consoles,so is affecting both its CPU and dGPU supplies.

There might other stuff like Covid, etc also contributing to shortages, but when it comes to supply of Nvidia dGPUs to desktop miner are one of the main reasons for shortages, especially when Nvidia have directly supplied dGPUs to huge mining farms in Europe, etc. The miners are even trying to mine on laptops - the laptop RTX3060 GPUs are apparently not limited.

Then you have all the 12NM/14NM/16NM dGPUs using GDDR5 which are also in short supply.

But ironically its much easier to buy a dGPU in a prebuilt PC or laptop - so again means it desktop retail dGPUs which seem to be affected the most(same GPUs in laptops).

You can’t honestly believe that, surely?

Is it ONLY miners that are causing stock shortages? No. There are several factors. But miners not causing them at all? Off your rocker.

Don't worry the mining defence force is out in strength. During the last 2 mining booms,it was never the miners fault. In the case of Nvidia, they apparently supplied nearly $200 million of RTX3000 dGPUs direct to miners 1~2 months after the launch of Ampere. There are apparently substrate constraints too which people point to,but mining is having an effect.

“For the quarter in review, Nvidia sold at least $175 million worth of new generation GPUs to ethereum miners, helping the outperformance,” Bitcoin.com reported based on a note from RBC Capital Markets analyst Mitch Steves. “The analyst had guided sales to miners to come in at $150 million for the quarter.”
BTW,see how the analyst says "new generation" so it might be implied, there was more sales in total if you include "old generation".

AMD,OTH,is more affected by wafer supply - apparently its diverted most of its 7NM wafers to console production which affected both its CPU and GPU supplies. Nvidia is not using TSMC either, but Samsung so you can't blame the current TSMC issues for Nvidia having a lack of supply.

In fact even the Turing dGPUs have sold out, including those on TSMC 12NM and using GDDR5.

    Edit!!

You want to see how big some of these mining farms are:

Except if it is like the 3060 there will be plenty of things you can still mine so miners will be buying them in bulk.

The *only* component that I can't buy right now is a GPU, the one component that miners want to bulk buy. You can't possibly think that is a coincidence?

What is the point? they might as well say we have a new card that gives you 500fps @ 16k res in any game and also makes you irrisitable to the opersite sex.

You can't bloody buy one, infact you can't even buy last gen gpu's for more than the rrp even though it's been mined or overclocked to an inch of its life.
I quite like gtx970's for old sytems and even these have gone up about £50 in price second hand, you can't mine on these now (well you can but you ain't making any money) so why the rise ....... it's because everyone is a greedy selfish so and so.

Rumours about the release on an RTX 3080 Ti coming out of China. They are for miners or they are for us, but very expensive.

Basic supply and demand. There is no readily available supply to consumers, who also haven't been going out spending money. Generally that means more money chasing less goods, which equals price increases across the board (very basic inflationary effect). I mean, it's terrible to be here yet again after the last round of the mining boom, you would have thought both AMD and Nvidia would have learned that they have a core market they need to service prior to servicing the miners. I'll be glad when Intel do finally get a dGPU out in the wild, at least it'll give consumers more choice and hopefully ease any inflationary effect.

Yep, miners provide infinite demand and there is a finite supply. Which makes sense if you see a GPU as a money printing machine, where it isn't if you will be in profit but when.

I recently bought a 5600X for my wife at RRP (thanks Currys), the motherboard was a decent price, I got a rather nice WD black SSD not only on offer but including a free game, for RAM I went for ECC thanks to plenty of choice (at work I got some non ECC in a nice white that matched the motherboard).

Honestly, there is a bit of a supply issue that means it is hard to buy stuff in a hurry right now and you might have to wait a week or two if you are picky. There is one exception to that: graphics cards. You can pick up a 2GB GT730 pretty easily, but retailers have nothing better and won't even take a pre-order. OTOH, if you go to British Miners you can put down a deposit for a GPU to queue up for one. Or two. Maximum order is 16 per customer.

Even the 4GB cards just end up mining something like Ravencoin, hence I wonder what Nvidia are thinking that an Etherium centric crypto mining lock will work when there are clearly other things trending as well.

Seeing a mining youtuber offering this as merch didn't improve my mood:

I will believe it when I see it, I haven't been able to buy a 3000 series for months and they keep announcing new models I can't buy, Bravo! And I have stock in both Nvidia and AMD, stupid me.

yeah it's difficult out there at the moment. If you're not using discord or bots you don't really have a chance at the moment

Even using discord/bots it's almost impossible to get one (at a reasonable price).

The scalpers have hooked into those channels and are using scripts to beat you. If you're not automating you have no chance. I was super lucky to get in when I did. Really regret sending that 2nd one back to ebuyer now.
