I never noticed anything different about them. Nothing. Nadda. You see... Huawei went with the amazing camera angle and quite funky choices. They forced Samsung and Apple to actually upgrade their own camera tech. Without Huawei we'd still be sitting with phones that sucked for photos. What did LG bring?

I had the G4 and it was excellent. One of my favourite devices I've had. The current trend of creaping to £1000 devices is ridiculous.

The £1000 trend is properly excessive, but people are clearly paying that sort of money every 2-3 years.

Full statement from LG regarding the closure:

"LG Electronics Inc. (LG) announced that it is closing its mobile business unit. The decision was approved by its board of directors earlier today.

LG’s strategic decision to exit the incredibly competitive mobile phone sector will enable the company to focus resources in growth areas such as electric vehicle components, connected devices, smart homes, robotics, artificial intelligence and business-to-business solutions, as well as platforms and services.

Current LG phone inventory will continue to be available for sale. LG will provide service support and software updates for customers of existing mobile products for a period of time which will vary by region. LG will work collaboratively with suppliers and business partners throughout the closure of the mobile phone business. Details related to employment will be determined at the local level.

Moving forward, LG will continue to leverage its mobile expertise and develop mobility-related technologies such as 6G to help further strengthen competitiveness in other business areas. Core technologies developed during the two decades of LG’s mobile business operations will also be retained and applied to existing and future products.

The wind down of the mobile phone business is expected to be completed by July 31, although inventory of some existing models may still be available after that."

LG brought the first ultrawide camera in a phone, and the first phone with the classic wide-normal-tele combination. What did huawei bring to phone cameras again?

They also brought the first notch, although technically that was a separate screen (giving the same effect)

The Huawei P20 was I believe the first smartphone to come with 3 cameras. Their software does a pretty good job of image processing too.

Nah, that was the LG optimus 3d (in 2011, although their 3d photo idea didn't take off). P20 has a normal camera and a B/W camera with the same FOV, which is a very odd choice. For reference (and to elaborate on my claims):
    - First notch: V10
    - First UW camera: G5
    - First proper triple camera setup: V40 (in 2018, so not that long ago)

There is so much choice in the smart phone market that I'll doubt many will miss LG handsets. I've avoided LG phones due to build quality issues or buggy software.

Sad to see LG go but there's no point in innovating if they can't get the basic user experience right.

Ah, I thought you meant 3 cameras total. A black & white camera with the same FOV as the main one is about as useful as a 3MP macro - LG was the first with a sensible trio of cameras on the rear (wide, normal, and tele)
