Of course they will. They're wonderful people, just like Google. They are very socially conscious.
Of course, that last bit is utterly true .... if you consider alternate meanings to the obvious.
Speaking of fairy tales, heard the one about the wolf that huffs and puffs? :D
Re: Data from 533 million Facebook accounts leaked online
On a less fascetious note, I have maintained for most of the last couple of decades that the simplest way to achieve as much personal privacy as realistically possible is to not use such services in the first place, and that the best tool for online privacy is not putting anything online. Of course, that's a step to far for most people, including me or I wouldn't have been using even this forum for all that time ... and other online servics for a lot longer. I know there are a ew other CIXen on here. Hi, guys. Also, I usually then get remarks about tinfoil hats. ;)
Ultimately, it's a sliding scale with privacy on one end, and convenience/confidentiality on the other. There are, of course, a LOT of steps that can be taken to increase privacy while minimising the loss of convenience, but then, it' a trade-off with effort, and the question is .... do pople care enough to make the effort? My guess is that most don't. But then, if you use thee likes of Facebook, AND don't take even basic steps to limit exposure to risk, you hardly sound credible if caught in such a data breach.
Seriously, the only way to be SURE nothing gets leaked online is to not put it online.

I didn't know CIX were still going.
I guess the worry is if Hexus gets bought out by Facebook or Google in some random spending spree. Seems slim though.
I guess you could run your own forum so you really know where the data goes, but that's a lot of work :)

I meant CIX back in the day? Still going? Dunno, but doubt it.
I do still have a couple of vBulletin perpetual licences knocking around. ;)

I'd happily take one!

Careful what you wish for. 4 is good but now outdated, 5 is a hot mess.

They have zero intention of informing the common man. I feel sorry for the people who get their news from the filtered and biased lens of social media. Can you imagine the outrage they'd create if they informed their user base of what just happened? Facebook will have some damage to its share price. Nope, better keep their mouth shut. After all, admitting to a mistake is proof you did it, right? /sarcasm
SMH Facebook really needs to be SHUT DOWN.

Looks like LinkedIn had a similar sized breach.
Both companies should be slammed with the maximum penalty by Data Protection laws in every country which has users contained within the breach.

Seems like a lifetime ago now, using my 14k4 modem to grab messages with the offline reader.
I did a quick Google after your previous comment to see what happened to CIX. It really is still around in some form, though it has changed hands a lot over the years. But then I guess charging per month for access keeps the riff-raff out :)

I started with a Dowty Quattro which, IIRC, topped out at 2400baud and included 1200/75 split-rate for Prestel. Upgraded to USR Courier 14.4's, then the USR 28.8, and 56k. I ran a Wildcat BBS on a couple of those Couriers, at a grand each, and 2 extra phone lines.
Now, I'm trying to decide whether to run fibre round the house for a 10Gb/s LAN. How times have changed, and so fast.
Mind you, I started on a 300-baud line running on an acoustic coupler. Oh wot fun that was. :D

It sometimes feels fast, but then my daughter reminds me that is isn't by pointing at me and saying "Old!" :D

cat 6a will do 10Gb/s but switches aren't cheap. Fibre is a better long-term prospect if the install cost works

Amiga A4000 with 6 x USR Couriers and 4 x telephone lines IN!

Still trying to work out the maximum cable length and if I can get from main switch to all points with copper, and cost versus SFP+ and a couple of transceivers, or an extra switch. It's so easy to keep incrementally getting more and more expensive and, after everything's done, will I actually get enough benefit (over, say, 2.5Gb/s) to justify it. I'm in another of those Yes I will/No I won't loops.
