Of course, it sold out quickly, especially as AMD sold it at MSRP $649/£563.

A colleague of mine after repeatedly failing to get a new gen graphics card has decided it’s time to switch to console for his gaming needs.... he’s now finding out how hard it is to get an Xbox series X...

Xbox's are way easier to get than these GPUs. You can tell pretty easily as the ebay prices are very close to RRP now and many places do pre-orders. They're like £100 extra, GPUs are 2-3x the RRP. Most of my friends wanting one now have one, but I know no one that's got the GPU they wanted or even an alternative at RRP.

They sound like the epitome of consumerism sheep. Let me guess they bought a £1000 iPhone on launch day and only wear their underwear once.

Well I have an iPhone and a new graphics card. I also paid off my mortgage over 10 years ago, so I guess I had my priorities right.

So they have enough stock for special editions?? I heard this was only actually available for people who were part of an AMD loyalty programme(not sure if this is true) who were given access to the links.

    Ditto on the mortgage.

While there is a circumstances-dependent argument for renting, and obviously I'm not referring to those wanting to buy but unable to get on the ladder, I do know some people that prefer renting to buying, because the early years of paying a mortgage tend to be hard, especially if you work on paying it off early. But I'd suggest they consider what several subsequent decades of not having to worry about either rent or mortgage does for monthly disposable income. It really does free up finances for consumerist indulgences, doesn't it?

This announcement really just seems like AMD rubbing consumers' noses in it. Like wheeling out the yacht on Bullseye "let's have a look at what you could have won!"

The new SKU was sold out in minutes, and someone lucky got it. Now I think seriously about Xbox!

Well why do they care?? The Zen3 CPUs essential start at £300 for a 6C CPU,despite the chiplet only being slightly larger than Zen2. All the mere plebs have is the Zen2 dregs,to the extent even Intel with another 14NM+++++++++++++++++++++++++++ CPU seems to now look better in the entry level/mainstream markets.

Heh, competition used to be good for consumers, now Intel, NVidia and AMD are all competing to be the absolute worst

I guess time will tell but I'd be very surprised if 6 months was long enough to see a major change. My money is on more like 12-18 months (or more) unless something radical happens, like the mining bubble bursts (again) and even then, the pent-up demand from ordinary gamers currently holding off on an upgrade is going to keep demand-side pressure up for a while as prices fall. And even that assumes supply-side limits on resources eases to alllow manufacturers to ramp production to the limits.

Maybe I'm unduly pessimistic, but .... time will tell.
