I used to be excited for new card releases, planning on how I would fund my next purchase, now I don't bother anymore. All out of stock or some ridiculously high price and I can't see these being any different.
I don't want to have to be scanning discord etc 24 hours a day in the hope of buying one either.
Jon
I only got back into building PCs last year after many years out and this GPU shortage/scalping/fake MSRP fiasco has taken the wind right out of my sails.
I'm excited to get my hands on one and at the end of the day a new graphics card just means another product you can potentially get a hold of in this current market
If the 3080Ti comes as an FE card at a decent price, then I'm all for it, if it comes as AIB only, and the prices are as they are, then they can feck off..
You first have to have stock left on the day of release....
I can already see this as being scalped or purchased via backdoors for cryptomining etc so there will be next to no stock for 'normal' people.
Personally I'd love to be able to buy a 3090FE (3D rendering, not gaming) and the rest of the system to go with it but I've just come to terms that isn't happening for at least a year, hell at the rate things are going the 4xxx series will be out of stock too.
it is a bit low to only go at 12GB
The memory has to be added in multiples of 12 to fit the bus. I don't know if you can even get 2GB GDD6X chips yet - the 3090 has 24 1GB chips which means 12 on the back of the pcb and correspondingly more complex circuitry. Hence they go for 12 to save money and to distinguish it from the 3090. Not that you'll be able to buy one, so it doesn't really matter what it's got.
Couldn't care less about this.
.... it's going to be another paper launch, fully sold out within 1 hoour and immpossable to buy ar rrp
As others above have basically said "what's the point"!
AIB versions of the 3080 are currently going for between £1,100 and £1,200 from "legitimate" O/L stores (EG. OCuk) ... I shudder to think what price the 3080ti will carry
And from looking at the OCuk forums, there appear to be plenty of people waiting to snatch what little stock comes along, even at the above prices. Each to their own I suppose. Got to laugh really
Live long and prosper.
I know it's a primary function of this site to report the release of new kit, but I concur with most of the others, there seems very little point reporting graphics cards releases any more. If you can even get hold of one they are ridiculously expensive (even at the RRP), and the likelihood of getting hold of one anyway seems to be next to non-existent! To be honest, it's a very sad state of affairs, and frankly quite depressing, mainly as it seems unlikely the situation will improve in the foreseeable future, if at all.
What ruined it for me was DRM destroying games. New games that need fancy cards just don't bother me any more, not after all the hassle I had with COD not working properly due to broken DRM and then the company thinking they were above consumer law. Took me so long to get my money back (I had to go via the payment processor and provide evidence of repeated and intentional violations as well as TOS that violated UK law) I won't be buying another game from them.
That kind of stuff means I won't be going back to new AAA games. I'll buy old games off GOG with no DRM rubbish for a third of the price and run them on a two year old GPU.
