Impressive looking, just too bad no one would use it to make a game i would consider playing, they will probably make the same garbage they are making nowadays.
Re: Unreal Engine 5 early access now available
Today games is on way to small 'maps' as well... and honestly with many of them games out there you feel cramped... oddly enough massive worlds was done very well with old and ancient games.

Surprising where Unreal Engine ends up these days, since Epic decided to compete head-to-head with Unity for the hearts and minds of small-shop & one-man-band developers (one of the reasons I cut them more slack than most gaming companies).

They are just using tons of venture funding to push out the only competitor left, and then we will have a monopoly unless you are a AAA studio who has their own engine. Once there is no 3rd party competition, see the prices rise. Its the classic tactic Stagecoach used in the UK!
Re: Unreal Engine 5 early access now available
Well i like small maps, but thats not really what i see, at least in the silly battle royale games.
I like to play CTF or at least TDM, so if a map get too large it get boring, i need to make a kill or get killed at least every 30 seconds, so RUN & gun at full speed ( always run )
But i would like to see nice graphics maybe also to some degree of collapsible map features.
I dont need:
Weapon upgrades or too many weapons to choose from.
Player skill trees.
Loot boxes.
On map shops.
Secondary deploy able things like air attacks.
Vehicles.
Special abilities like running on walls or grappling hooks.
Playing the same maps over and over.
Wait for round to finish if dead, only breaks in a game should be map change or quitting.
No team mate medic.
And probably 10 more things i can not come up with right now.
But as you can see from above, all things that are in most new games.

Your tastes are similar to mine... I like the simple run & gun mechanics that made the early 1st person shooters so awesome.

There are hundreds of game engines - and many studios develop their own in house engines (or layers on top of other engines)... there's no danger of Epic's Unreal Engine becoming a monopoly.
The following is just a partial list of known game engines...

And only a handful of those publicly available ones are actually used still.
It's pretty standard in the industry by now that unless they have their own engine, they'll be hiring Unity or UE developers.
It's the same with web development, there are 100s of JavaScript frameworks available, to the point it's a meme within that community but 90% of new development these days is in 3 maybe 4 frameworks.
