    I still break out BF2 with the 64player bots mod from time to time. Ok it's not as good as online, but it's good enough to while away an hour or two. I still love dog-fighting in some of the aerial maps.

    That was/is not true of Battlefield. Perhaps you're thjinking of Battlefront ?
    In BF5 there's a lot of cosmetics for sale, but they don't affect gameplay

    The only thing they could technically be yanked up on was the pay-to-unlock all weapons and attachments. But that still didn't really give them a competitive advantage because it was still reliant mostly on whether you were good at the game. Getting the best sniper rifle in the game didn't instantly make you amazeballs.
