And Microsoft has paused Windows 10 preview builds ahead of its 24th June event.

That just made my ears bleed, not sure what the "relaxing" bit was supposed to be, when it was over or the thought of welcoming death, just to make it stop
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
Microsoft seems to suggest this dirge will help those "too excited for the June 24th Microsoft Event," to relax.
Erm, is anyone that excited? I mean I like Microsoft but err yeah

I'm more interested in this than I was the Mac WWDC (which gets excessive coverage on tech blogs) although this video seems rather questionable.
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
But not so excited you need calming music though right
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
Haven't they learned yet that people (generally) aren't comfortable with change-of-major-version Windows editions? Whatever the underlying tech, if they're on a version they like (XP, 7, 10) then there is resistance to a major version change.
Since Win10 seems to have been accepted, they really should stick to point-releases like apple did with OSX for so many years, and let users gracefully move forwards. I thought they'd more-or-less grasped this with the W10 yearly updates, but apparently not.
Note, I know this is an irrational thing, but nevertheless it has been a repeating pattern since Win98 more-or-less. A bit like Star Trek movies.
We will have to see what the upgrade eligability situation is - my gut says it may be an attempt to sever the Win7-10 update free path once and for all, but I hope I'm wrong.
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
They're constantly adding pointless crap to W10 that nobody wants (I've just turned off the stupid news thing in the system tray that appeared in today's update) so what is actually going to be in W11?
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
Maybe this will start the big push away from the Windows tax and more towards a rent, for enterprise only... for now.

Well to be fair, we've been on Windows 10 for ages now, and some of the major OSX updates have been as badly received as going to a new Windows product is.
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
Wasn't Windows 10 going to be 'the last version of Windows?' ??

I liked Win 10 since it came out, it was a big step up from 7, albeit with it's own problems but it actually worked and achieved plug and play functionality. A new version is welcome after quite many years. Software should evolve faster, not hardware. Buying new hardware every couple of years is bad for the environment and your pocket. Software optimization should be a priority.
Looking forward to it, but then again it is Microsoft we're talking about so it will take some years before it's finally ready to use properly. Oh, and that video is pure torture... marketing gone bad.

Intel Alderlake with its big.LITTLE core arrangement sure has good timing,to conveniently launch later this year! New Windows version should mean improved scheduling out of the box! ;)

I'll tell you what I'd like to hear from Microsoft...
"We're going to pay tax on the 220+ Billion profits we paid none whatsoever on last year".
Yeah, that will happen.

Apple, Google, cough
Re: Microsoft Windows 11 teased with 11 minutes of slo-fi startup audio
There have really only been 3 versions of Windows for consumers (discounting 3.1 and before as they were programmes rather than an OS in their own right):
Win9x (95, 98, Me,) that essentially ran over DOS7 underneath.
NT (NT, 2000, XP)
Vista (Vista, 7, 8, 10)
