i loved those old 950xl phones. would this run on any newish mobile then or just old windows mobiles?

Technically, you can install Windows on ARM on generic ARM based tablets as I understand it so realistically, it could be any sufficiently compatible ARM system just extraneous hardware may not be supported like Wi-Fi, Modems, fingerprint scanners etc until Windows on ARM specific drivers are made compatible for that hardware.

Would be an insteresting test to take a number of high, medium and low performance tablets and doing objective tests on whether Windows is becoming more ARM friendly as that would be the better place to start as Tablets would be less likely to have exotic extra hardware like a phone would.

Only retired my lumia 735 recently due to app support (whatsapp dying).

If I can get windows 11 running in a reasonable fashion I will resurrect it without question.

If MS were smart they would at least sanction some kind of Win11 for the R-Pi with full driver support, getting more people building and testing native Arm apps for Win11.

I think the conclusion I've seen on other forums its either:
1) Its a limitation for OEMs (i.e. don't buy old junk and sell it as new)
2) Its down to the security issues on these older chips. Intel are putting out new mitigations almost weekly! (There was one about zero'ing data being slower just the other day).

I wouldn't be surprised to see Microsoft lower this limit a bit also before final release. I think they went high so it can be slowly bought down and then settle where they really want it.

(This beta release has no CPU limitations which is why its running everywhere currently).

I loved my 920, on the fly translations from the camera, what, 7/8 years ago was miles ahead of the competition, camera that would also take a few shots and swap out those with their eyes closed, a lot of things that were miles ahead of the competition but MS ditched it, same with the watch they did, not sure I can forgive them for either, we'll have to be 3+ versions in before I go for another MS product like a phone or a wearble tbh..

Windows on RPi would be great, it'd get it in the hands of people that want to do more with an OS than just use a web browser

Considering that the fastest Snapdragon 845 benchmark nets a best case score of 511 and a range of 411-511, getting a score of 467 and being within the region of performance of a Galaxy S9 and a Pixel 3XL is quite impressive for a "test build". The OnePlus 6T nets a score of 509 normally.

Then the Adreno 630 seems to get around 3037 points on Night Raid from some other websites for graphics score meaning getting 2,834 is within 10% of an OS running it that was already optimised for the processor is a pretty interesting showing.

Could this have been Microsofts game plan all along and Windows 11 is less x86 focused and more ARM/Hybrid and everything else is just an "extra"?

Yet it won't run on a SKL based laptop,with TPM2.0,16GB of RAM,SSD,etc. MS have lost the plot!!
