EVGA video teases entry into the AMD motherboard market

The combination of the Ryzen logo and Dark name, make its intentions pretty clear.

    Mmmm, very interesting!

Might this be an opening up of EVGAs historical Intel and Nvidia exclusivity?

Edit: That Z390 Dark board is a super interesting configuration and layout.

Don't hold your breath for a UK or EU launch, EVGA has practically given up on everywhere except the US market.

Most likely would pop up in proshop.dk or the likes, usually that happens...

I'm liking the 90 degree rotation on a lot of the connectors, not sure the M.2 placement would work well with some of the heatsinks now being introduced and having a graphics card. Odd to see only 2 DIMM slots above a rotated CPU socket as well.

Re: EVGA video teases entry into the AMD motherboard market

This Dane ( also ) approve of slick non fussy design.
In regard to the pictured one above i very much like the angled power plugs, i do not understand why all are not like this already.
I also do not understand why power plugs for GFX cards are in the stupid place that they are, they need to go back in the rear of the cards.

There can be only one, way of doing things, the right way.

Wouldn't it be better with it rotated 90 the other way so that the VRM is closer to the power connector's?

I look at the footprint wiped out by those two m.2 sockets and think there has to be a better way.

I'm not sure m.2 sockets feature very highly in considerations for the dark series of boards, i think they're mainly intended for subzero overclocking.

If we get consumer EDSFF E3 drives, we should be able to get cheap adapters to put them in 3.5" bays (too big for 2.5"). That'd get the SSD at the end of a cable again, freeing up motherboard space - although saying that, there's no reason a motherboard manufacturer couldn't make a thing that sits in a 2.5" bay with a couple of m.2 slots with the data going over a cable. PCIe 4 over cables is super common in servers, desktops are odd in limiting it to PCB traces.

It's more likely we'll just end up with E1 drives flat on the board like m.2 if we do see consumer drives using the new standard, of course.

This is a good option to have in the future. I also like the 90 degree angle for the power connectors. Makes cabling simpler and have better air flow for the other components. Never had an EVGA product. Hopefully EVGA will still make amd boards when the x600 boards roll out. As long as the reviews didn't find any major problems. I would get one. Depending on price of course.

I'm more surprised that we didn't see more use of the U.2 connectors, it meant not having storage actually sat on the motherboard taking up space.

U.2 is a raging success in servers, they're only going to E.3 for better thermals and more density

Re: EVGA video teases entry into the AMD motherboard market

A new nine-second teaser from EVGA suggests that an X570 motherboard is in the works. The news comes as a shock to the hardware world as EVGA has never produced a motherboard with an AMD chipset before.

It's common knowledge that EVGA has strong ties with Nvidia and Intel, which explains why you never see AMD motherboards or Radeon graphics cards come out of EVGA's factory. Some might argue that EVGA has made motherboards for AMD processors in the past, such as the EVGA nForce 730a. Technically, they weren't AMD motherboards per say since they utilized Nvidia's chipsets.

According to the short video, the upcoming AMD motherboard hails from EVGA's premium Dark series. Barring any surprises, the motherboard will likely arrive as the EVGA X570 Dark. EVGA has always been conservative when making motherboards, usually only putting out one or two models for every new chipset. While an X570 FTW is possible, it's unlikely that it'll happen.
