Not surprised. I've been using since shortly after it was Chromium'd and its as good as chrome while also keep me from being fully under Googles sphere of control (I already have an android phone and gmail). Shame it hasn't ticked up a bit more as we're in danger of Chrome being too much the new IE.

Have to admit, Edge is actually not really annoying me when I use it, I kinda prefer how it presents some information and aspects to me better than Chrome. It's still a long way off me considering switching to it as a daily driver but it's no longer painful to use.

I just wish Windows would F off with recommending it to me every 22.8 seconds.

This is why I use FF - we don't want to go back to the old times where websites were only developed for IE. That, and how UI updates I don't like can be easily turned off in about:config - that's a level of control that MS and google never give users.

That concerns me too. Ignoring the tiny sub 1% share minnows (hey, some sadist is probably still using Mosaic or Netscape Communicator,) there are now essentially 3 browsers. In order of market share they are:

3. Firefox
2. Safari
1. Chrome(ium)

Regardless of whether you use the Google, MS, Brave, Opera or FOSS flavour of Chrome.

Honestly when I was browsing the front page (no pun intended) I actually read the blurb under the headline as

In my defense, my eyesight isn't what it has been, the font is smallish and you actually *could* mistake the 'f' for a 't' and the 'ri' for an 'n'...

Waterfox user here btw. The new Firefox is just too much of a Chrome wannabe.

Yeah I'm not shocked it's gone above firefox considering how much it's being 'forced' on users in windows and how poor firefox is becoming due to essentially the dev's not listening to the remaining users....

Personally I prefer firefox but it's getting harder and harder to stay with it. Dev's making arbitrary decisions which make the browser worse, removing features due to telemetry showing no one uses them... well the ones using firefox don't want to be tracked so they're also turning off the telemetry, they then ignore the 'feedback' about it being removed on reddit etc.... The new UI sucks, I've had to install a theme which ironically is based on edge just to get some contrast and legibility.

Firefox is useless at printing websites (been like it for ages), it never sets it up correctly and I had to use edge to get a print out of my vat return (for records) because firefox didn't format it right....


Throw in an increasing amount of websites not working correctly with firefox (some of it's firefox, some of it's poor coding, and I can see firefox becoming a skin for chrome soon, it's already trying to look like it.

I've tried waterfox etc but had some issues with compatibility sadly.

should be number one out of these, because it is. That said, I use edge and SR WARE IRON also. and certainly stopped using firefox since the company is playing awful politics.

Not sure what you're referring to but I think you'd struggle to find any other mainstream browser made by a company that doesn't have questionable politics. Google, Apple & MS dodge taxes and are complicit in American agency data gathering via Patriot act for example.

I was a long time Firefox user from the very beginning in fact when it was a prototype in early 2000s, the current leadership at Mozilla has run Firefox into the ground.

The cabal in charge was never meant to be but the best internal Mozilla candidate to lead was forced out for being a practicing christian in his personal life, the separation between professional work conduct and personal politics was breaking down, this was a warning of things to come that many ignored.

Firefox has just gotten worse and worse over the years making all the wrong moves, I finally quit recently when the Mozilla head called for more internet censorship and de-platforming.

The best thing I found is Vivaldi, it still uses Chrome under the hood but feels like a power user product with a lot more options than Chrome.

Brave is another good option and is headed up by the guy who Mozilla forced out and removes Google's own internal data tracking.

Librewolf is a fork of Firefox without all the bad stuff Mozilla does.

Librewolf sounds interesting, shame they don't have any images of it on their page to see if the UI is reasonable.

Slightly odd they claim "Intrusive integrated addons including updater, crashreporter, and pocket are removed" and "uBlock Origin is already included for your convenience".

I appreciate not everyone see uBlock as intrusive, but you can make that argument about crash reporter and the others too. Why not just keep it clean with "no integrated add ons" and let people decide which ad blocker (if any,) they want to install.

The point about the ubiquity of Chromium is a good one. My main browser is Vivaldi with Opera as main back-up for sites that don't work in Vivaldi. I use Edge rarely, when a site doesn't work in either of the other two. I have Firefox installed for just one site which doesn't work properly in any of the other the other three browsers.

I've used Firefox for more years than I can remember and am still happy with it. It works well, does what I need it to do, and memory usage is reasonable (especially with Firemin installed). And I just prefer Mozilla's non-profit ethos to Microsoft's and Google's (especially the latter).

It seems more and more people are drifting away from Firefox though, if this thread is representative of wider trends. I know there are plenty of very capable browsers out there to choose from nowadays, but personally I think it'd be real shame if Firefox just slowly drifted into obscurity. I hope it can retain a foothold, despite being overtaken by the big boys (i.e. Google, Apple, MS).
