Rumours they may be but it would explain why they're so 'reluctant' to allow things like xCloud streaming etc onto iOS...
They wouldn't want an established gaming company with lots of games going up against this new 'console' (it's likely going to be an m1 based apple tv with controllers) when most of their games will likely be the same iOS games found in arcade.
It has been rumoured for a long time now that Apple has been working on its own cloud gaming service and the latest rumour of a games console seems to be pointing in the right direction
After the disappointing Google Stadia that failed to fulfil all the features mentioned at its initial event, lets hope Apple can do better
And for every element of the console, you'll have to buy adapters and addons for all the things!
Maybe Apple going for the ultimate retro arcade console which you have to keep feeding with coins?
It will be released as soon as Apple figure out how to physically siphon coins to their Scrooge McDuck safes (not in Cupertino as they don't want to repatriate their coins to the USA where they'd be forced to pay tax on them).
Seriously, the M1 already has the best GPU performance of any SOC by a large margin, so it will be interesting to see what they manage.
No thanks - Raspberry Pi4, recallbox and retropie etc. here cos we only playz themz 80z gamez
Old puter - still good enuff till I save some pennies!
Hmm. Hopefully it won't get so hot that it burns your hands like the iPhone 12 Pro Max does, even playing old games.
Would far rather a slower device that's comfortable to use than a bleeding-edge space-heater.
This will end roku if roku doesn't start adding an NV soc and gaming ability with a gamepad optional. Roku=RIMM. Apple will do what NV/ROKU haven't. PUSH the gaming to the limits of that little box, and make it a portable to boot. NV almost did it, but gave up after doing the hardware for a mere 10mil. Not sure why they didn't start putting 100mil/yr into 25 or so exclusives made either by their own dev teams or contracted out. IE, switch type games are ~2-4mil each unless very special, so for ~100mil NV could have had a huge library by now over ~5yrs and that would have sold more new models of hardware yearly. They seemed to have forgotten how cuda took 6-7yrs to own the world. Making a billion a Q NET, they could easily do 100mil yearly and port any losers to other android users a year or two later to recoup and re-invest those back into more exclusives. Small teams making great games. It isn't enough to stream TV crap today, you need to double as a console and heck maybe a full browser/kb/mouse option too.
Rimm had it all, then apple said Exchange+gaming, and rimm was dead...LOL. Email and games was all it took.
I will wait till the day Apple designs a full-fledged 'Gaming Mac' and there is a possibility for sure. Like they have the best chips, best GPU, best everything... and loyal customers! What's stopping them??
