Intel Arc Alchemist graphics card design looks silver and sleek

But the latest rumours say that desktop Arc Alchemist cards won't arrive until Q2 2022.

What I find interesting is the dumb perf metric calculations versus the real perf calculation where AMD is at such a deficit in a pure paper numbers game yet in reality (likely due to Smart Cache) it is able to punch far higher than its silicon weight...

True but I tend to disregard all performance metrics on such unreleased products as likely being the standard spoiler-marketing, and mere 'lies, damned lies and benchmarks'.

Is it really worth paying any significant attention until we get, first, actual product, and second, several independent tests?

Except the section I'm mentioning is based on what is observable based on paper TFLOPs and then providing a percentage point difference from reference which is the 3070ti. Considering the 6700XT is a released product, I was commenting on the actuality of how AMD has continued to make TFLOP calculations near enough non-referential to their designs.

Nothing about Intels design, purely on the AMD part in MLIDs table.

    Looks alright.... I suppose.
Doesn't really matter to me, as it'd be getting a waterblock slapped on it regardless.

I think the main thing will be suport

Are they going to update drivers or will it be the normal intel so driver delivery.

Probably will be a good option for gamers, but not for pro users(designers, engineers, etc) - almost all specific soft is made to work well with nvidia.

Intel has the advantage of being able to start from a clean slate on the advanced features of the discrete GPUs, and so could integrate the ray tracing and super-sampling capabilities after observing the other solutions. Along with that, they doubled up on the GPU matrix processing for ai support. Their HPC GPU has explicit support for FP64, bf16 and even more matrix capabilities.

Intel has a good history of hardware support for encode and decode in their integrated GPUs, and their Xe-HPC demo indicated this will be a strength in the discrete GPUs.

correction ... I meant the Xe-HP demo Intel did a year ago, transcoding 10 streams of 4K 60 HEVC on a single tile. See wccftech article, "Intel Benchmarks Monster 42 TFLOPs 4 Tile ‘Arctic Sound’ Xe GPU With 16,384 Cores" from Aug 13, 2020.

"He says it is quite difficult to share such images without revealing his insider source(s)". READ: I have no insider source(s). Based on logic alone that's not what the top-teir card/cooling is going to look like. Similar TDP to other cards in the same class = larger cooling solution. Looks suspiciously like a re-rendered (stretched) 6600 from one AMD user to the next..
