So, once again, we should wait 1-2 years before adopting.

Always wait at least 6 months for any major release. Let the early adopters hit the biggest stumbling blocks first.

I'm gonna Splashtop into my machine at home and remote upgrade while I sit at work, because I like to live on the edge, push the boundaries, be a rebel...

Oh, it's out already. Um, ok. Not really been paying attention - thought it was months away...

I'll probably get it on my desktop/laptop in the next few days when I get the time. Never felt the need to wait to upgrade my home machines. They do nothing critical and its always exciting to be cutting edge. Personally I've had every windows OS since vista on day one and never had problems.

I installed Vista on day one as well. Luckily, the PC was already installed in a well crashed car.

Re: Microsoft Windows 11 global rollout begins today

I have installed it, seems ok but theres a lot of things that were in one place and now are somewhere else and that is frustrating. I have played a couple of games and to me its not any different.

Re: Microsoft Windows 11 global rollout begins today

Been using it for months and apart from the quirks that come with a Beta release, it's been very good, very stable and a far more enjoyable experience within the settings menus than it has in Win 10.

Except for exceptional functions, the settings menu pretty much has almost all that is needed. For instance, on Win10, changing network settings was an absolute crapshoot and I just straight up ignored the Win10 method and reverted to classic network and sharing. Now, unless I have specific needs outside of normal ip addressing, it's quite well thought out and very usable.

But only time will tell if it suits the needs of the masses.

I just wish tech companys would stop pandering to lower IQ market, half the start menu filled with sugestions because we're all to thick to think of anything.
Stop trying to make us use edge, media player etc.
And most of all stop spying on us , lets face it the data your collecting isn't helping your product as what your producing isn't what people are asking for, the threads with teh highest feedback on the insiders groups where all "bring back aero" not make it like apple os.

Problem is Apple (And google to a less extent) have conditioned people into believing 1) A consumer OS is free 2) It should just work (and part of that means no settings). Lets face it how many PC's have you likely fixed for friends/families/neighbours where they've fiddled with some settings and bust something!

I never got Vista hate personally. It was a RAM hog but was fine with a 1gb. Problem was cheap laptops came with 256Mb and ran like dogs. Just doubling to 512Mb would make most systems work fine...

Re: Microsoft Windows 11 global rollout begins today

just looked in settings>update and theres a big message saying 'This PC doesnt currently meet all the system requirements for windows 11' and a link to the system check tool.

I know it just needs secure boot enabled, but if i dont enable it, then i wont accidentaly install win 11 via the update page
so I'll leave secure boot disabled for now.

Finally, someone else who didn't buy into the Vista anti-hype. I mean, sure it had its share of issues, like any major new OS release. But it really wasn't that bad with a reasonably specced PC, and felt like a decent step forward from XP. Unfortunately though, the negativity reached a critical mass which never really subsided, whereby everyone thought they looked bang on trend by bashing Vista and MS.

I decided to wait until today before updating (I deliberately avoided the term 'upgrading' as I know there'll be some who decry Win11 as a downgrade). First impressions are mostly positive. First thing I did was move the start menu back to bottom-left though. Old habits die hard, I guess.

I agree that the Settings app is a huge improvement. It was absolute turd in W10 and I always ended up going back to Control Panel, but it seems much improved in W11.

One slightly amusing point of note is a new option on the Explorer context menu - not 'Open in Command Prompt' or 'Open in PowerShell', but 'Open in Terminal'. Shamelessly taken straight from MacOS

The only issue I've noticed so far is in COD Modern Warfare 2. I know it's an old-ish game so I'm not too bothered, but the red dot is missing from those weapons which have a red-dot sight. In the grand scheme of things though, that feels pretty trivial.

Re: Microsoft Windows 11 global rollout begins today

Forced the install on my new laptop overnight. All installed no problems this morning. I also left aligned the start button (It just makes more sense on a non-touch laptop/desktop). Otherwise haven't had much of a play (although I did install Epic games launcher via the new store which is way better than the old - one odd point was the store took a few minutes to update from the old Windows 10 version so I was beginning to wonder what the big change was!)
