Give them time, the Intel ones are easy to get out the door first because Intel has an extremely mature mobility design collaboration team.

Look at all this stifling of innovation. ;)

So liked the look of these but the price is pretty high. I got a Dell 14" with a Ryzen 5500 8Gb of RAM, 256Gb NVMe for ~£460. A similar spec'd intel i5 framework is close to a $850. I guess you pay a price for the flexibility but its too much for me (even if they sold in the UK yet).

Unless I can customise these things to the extreme and make it perfect, my next laptop will be a cheap, refurbed Thinkpad.
I'll be waiting to see the condition of their business after their second version comes out. It's the cash flow available at that point that'll give me the best indicator as to whether this business will be around for a while. Without that information, it's not worth spending the extra cash for upgrade / repairability.

Guess it depends on whether Framework is more comparable to a business-class laptop.
For something comparable to a ThinkPad T or X, Latitude 7xxx, or EliteBook, $850 is a good price.

Considering Linus from linus tech tips invested over 200k (shareholder) in them, I'd say the business plan is relatively sound.

A sound business plan doesn’t guarantee success though…
Re: Framework laptop modular marketplace goes live
Plus 200k wouldn't go very far if you're talking about the sort of stock levels at that per item price level, it may only cover a single QTR of advanced orders from their manufacturers.

Depends on what you class as a success, it's obviously not going to make billions but it is potentially able to become a niche (lets be honest it's incredibly niche product) but sustainable long term business with the right management and approach etc.
Re: Framework laptop modular marketplace goes live
Well having a plan and being able to carry out, or stick to that plan isn't always a given, plus, when there are share holders involved you have them to contend with and that also will change a plan...

I think it's something akin to Tesla (except Tesla became wildly successful but really wasn't its primary changer as follows) where someone has set out to prove that it is possible, you can do it with little/no sacrifice (depending on user needs) and to show up the big 3 (Apple, Dell, HP) that what they've been saying all along is garbage.
Now, Framework could shake the industry and become wildly successful through their gusto or they could shake the industry and then fade into irrelevance because the industry they've changed will have its competitors surpass them due to having bigger pockets.
I hope for either but wish for the first.

He did a video about it saying that there are much larger investors out there, his 200k is the tip of the iceberg. Their business model is a balance between the safety of build-to-order and estimating demand, so they don't have the same risks of failure as the kind of businesses you're talking about.

Tesla have been going since 2003 and only managed to record profit in Q2 2021.
