Re: Google launches the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones

I'd been looking for an upgrade and think these are well priced (relatively) although I'd prefer a lower prices vs the headphones!
I'm unlikely to buy one as they're big phones which I don't like but I'm interested in the full reviews when the embargo is lifted.
Someone on reddit has had a play with one in store and posted a few more details and things are looking promising for the camera.

Notice not a single word on privacy in all of their PR, gee I wonder why...

Re: Google launches the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro smartphones

The pixel line continues to be a bit dull, boring, and lacking innovation aside from the camera setup & potentially the new CPU here.

I miss the days when they were either showcasing the best of android, or offering flagship features for a mid-range price point...they now seem to be taking the apple approach of minor iterative updates at an increasingly higher price at the moment.

Their foldable is the one we should be waiting for imo, to see if they can bring some innovation (and competitive pricing) to that segment. Heck, maybe something "new" and exiting like oh I dont know, a front screen without a hole in it.

I strongly dislike marketing like this.

20 cores? granted they've moved more of the processing closer together/on package, but security cores?

Reminds me of the consoles, reserved cores to lock the system down, only of benefit to the corps, doesn't stop them quoting how many cores they're selling you, despite not being able to use them.

Google might not be a hardware company like Apple but Google is really good with software, Pixel surprisingly has had the best images captured on a phone compared to other companies over marketed megapixel count.

Google are good at AI. Not software in general. It's the same buggy mess full of pointless bells and whistles whilst not being so good at actual useful things like being reliable - just like most other modern software.

I WANT to be able to create a side-by-side video using the front and rear camear. Blogging while you walk and to see what's ahead of you.

You need a Nokia 8 then. I seem to remember that had the feature. Didn't really catch on...

It's broadly a tweaked Exynos 2100, as seen in the Galaxy S21 range:
    Code:
        Tensor Exynos 2100
    2 x Cortex-X1 @ 2.8 GHz vs. 1 x Cortex-X1 @ 2.91 GHz
    2 x Cortex-A76 @ 2.25 GHz | 3 x Cortex-A78 @ 2.81 GHz
    4 x Cortex-A55 @ 1.8 GHz | 4 x Cortex-A55 @ 2.2 GHz
        Mali G78 MP20 | Mali G78 MP14
The Snapdragon 888 is also X1/A78/A55 in the same 1:3:4 setup, with an Adreno GPU instead. Dual prime cores is unusual, A76 cores is the real weird part. AFAICT that's just an older design, 2 generations older than the A78.

I'll pass too. Phones are a sometimes useful unpleasantness, but I don't hate them. Google, on the other hand ....
