Superbly, following hot on the heels of news on a game based on The Godfather, Vivendi have announced that work is progressing nicely on that other seminal gangster movie, Scarface.

Scarface immerses players in a "what if Tony survives" storyline that begins with the explosive shootout at the end of the film.

Those two screenshots look like they've been taking from Vice City with a different main character. The first looks like the main road on the west island, outside where you rob the bank, and the 2nd looks like inside of your mansion on the middle island...

Yeah, I thought that too... might be they're using the same engine... but then I thought, what if GTA was giving an oblique homage to Scarface, after all, there's plenty of references to other movies in GTA.

Scarface uses, amongst others, locations from the film... so if GTA was copying Scarface, things would look similar.

Ahh, probably. After all, GTA VC was a "gangster" type game! Still, it does look like a similar engine so if the story isn't too similar to GTA and it's plays differently it should be good. Not that I'm saying GTA isn't good, it's GREAT, but hopefully they will be different in some way.

I haven't even watched Scarface IIRC...

Accroding to the commentary on that bit, it was an improvisation that Joe Pesci just went off on all by himself, which is why everyone was looking suitably bemused... all done in one take... great stuff!
