TeraFLOPS = Trillion Floating Point Operations Per Second - aka a complex mathematical "sum"..

(of course it does depend on what type of FLOP it's doing, but the above figure does tally pretty well with the graph Sony were showing at the press conference..)
As for the cpu/cooling issue, stop thinking about pc's for a start, the configuration is completely different..
But basically speaking, it's lots of different specialised processors lumped together in a single chip.
That combined with the manufacturing process (which allows them to shrink more parts into a given area, and run with less power), results in a cooler running chip than your average desktop pc :)

Yes, your right about the Cell only having a floating point performance of 218 GigaFLOPS but combined with the RSX cores' 1.8 TeraFLOPS processing power, the PS3's total floating point performance is 2 TeraFLOPS. ;)Quote:
