Based on the Eclipse case we covered at CTS, and proving our hints to be true, Thermaltake have mounted a slimline CDRW/DVD-ROM drive in the door of the new Eclipse DV. Set for a July release, the DV will initially ship with the CDRW drive but, costs allowing, will likely ship with a DVD writer sometime afterwards.

Compared to some of the crap I've seen of late... it's pretty darn good. It's certainly quirky, and bound to have the "marmite polarisation" effect on opinions, but still I think it's a clever design.
its good to see they came true on thier commetns from when Nick and I spoke with them at CTS, its nice and discreet too...

I actually really like it myself. But then, I'm easily fascinated by spinny things, lol.
As long as they make sure the drive is a decent spec, I'd actually be quite likely to buy one....I need a case upgrade.
What happens if you want to upgrade, or it breaks? Can you replace it yourself?
It's standard depth laptop drive, so I guess there's an adapter maybe for the ribbon cabble, then after that there's 4 screws and it's out.... so yes, if it pops, you can fit another (assuming the plugs aren't proprietary, which I doubt they are).
It looks good in a kind of B&O way, although I'd like to see slightly darker coloured lighting. I was a little worried about the drive myself, but I guess that if it can be uppgraded that should be ok.
Also, I'm guessing that the displays in the 5 1/4 in bays are not a standard part of the case?
No, they're there so Thermaltake could show what could be put in the slots and to give them a working system to demo.
