R520 Delays Prove Beneficial to NVIDIA

PC Vendors are snapping up 7800s, and with no R520s in sight, who can blame them?
The delay of the ATI Technologies R520 graphics processing unit (GPU) will benefit sales of the Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX (G70), as more PC vendors including Dell and Hewlett-Packard (HP) have decided to adopt the GeForce 7800 series for their high-end PC models slated for release at the end of this year, according to unspecified Taiwan motherboard makers.

Since the 9700/9800 Pro, ATi seemed to have slipped a little in terms of releasing cards. If ATi had released the X800XL and X700 Pro on AGP (and PCI Express) earlier, then they would probably be in a better position now. The lack of R520 is even worse - I hope it appears soon! Of course, because of nVidia's tactics, ATi now really should start shipping the cards on the day of release, probably making the card's release even later. While this probably won't affect the times that the card ships, it still means that there is more time with no R520 on the scene, available or not. Either way, ATi need to play catchup.
