    Sempr0n gets 64-bit extensions

    Available immediately (to China's Lenovo at least) are AMD's new 64-bit capable Semprons. $74 will get you a 2600+ Sempron, so that's roughly £50 for a 64-bit CPU? Sounds good, now all we need is for applications to make use of them. AMD is keen to make sure as many people as possible have their hands on 64-bit capable processors.
    AMD is committed to bringing the right products to market at the right time. AMD’s customers have expressed considerable interest in seeing 64-bit capabilities enabled in AMD Sempron processors and the company is delivering on these needs. By providing 64-bit capabilities on AMD Sempron processors, AMD’s PC OEM partners will have the opportunity to take advantage of AMD64 technology to help ensure reliable performance and full-featured capability for their value-minded customer.
    Check out AMD's press release for more details.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    probably since this is AMD's "Value" socket. They'll probably be pritty quick too especially for office PC's. They're looking like a good buy when they arrive in the UK.
    your computer is similar to a fridge in that if it cannot keep a beer cold then it sucks

    Why?! Flog it second hand and you can get a 64bit one for a few quid on top.

    If you sell it on ebay, you could probably get a straight swap out for a XP2600

    Good news, pushing 64 bit
