    NVIDIA G71 details

    G71, or the faster G70 that NVIDIA are currently working on is, according to The Inquirer going to feature a dual-slot cooling solution. This means opportunity for hefy G70 and R520 killing clock speeds.
    We have learned that several boards achieved a clock speed of 800MHz, which just goes to prove that tweaks being done in 110nm G71 core will make R520 tremble, and force ATI to respond with its 32-pipe R580 as soon as possible. However, we have to warn you that we haven't been able to find out in what environment this clockspeed was achieved. But it was achieved using new and improved two-slot cooling, not water or phase-change cooling.
    Will ATi pull something out of the hat to counter this, I wonder?
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    Anyone got a spare drool bucket lying around? Mines just filled up.

    So is the R580 going to come out around the same time?

    Well, doesn't that sound so appealing that they will be able to easily distribute a board with high enough yields to satisfy the market.

    We haven't even seen the R520, how can people say it will tremble?!

    Exactly. I thought they were going away from this kind of offensively loud cooling. I guess the race to beat ATI's cards speeds is just that though.

    But atleast this will wipe the smug smile of the console fanboys who say it will take years for the PC to catch up with the PS3 etc for graphics power.

    Yeah, I thought it sounded unlikely. A respun G70 should be called a G75 if Nvidia follow their usual naming convention, the G71 would be the 7600 core.
