    "Strong revenue growth" for Microsoft

Microsoft reported yesterday that broad-based demand has produced a 9% revenue growth for the June quarter, with nearly $3bn revenue growth in fiscal 2005.

Microsoft are also keen to point out the record $44bn returned to shareholders

Two main growth points are the Server and Tools business and the Home and Entertainment division. Adoption of Microsoft SQL server produced double-figure percentage revenue growth in the Server and Tools business for the third year running.

Seems interesting that their "double figure revenue growth" was in the server area.

Most Linux groups have been stating that they are making inroads into the Server area. And lots of government agencies are turning to Linux.

Home and entertainment is very understandable, HTPCs and the XBOX.

But again with web servers I see a lot more companies offering Linux then windows, or a choice of Linux or Windows and cheaper hosting on the Linux.
