    VisionTek XTASY Theater 550Pro @ HardOCP

    HardOCP are taking a look at a solution based around ATi's Theater 550Pro chip, which features hardware audio/video decoding and image quality enhancements, making a potentially appealing multimedia solution, especially for in an HTPC.
    Overall, we are very impressed with the features, performance, and image quality of the VisionTek XTASY Theater 550Pro. VisionTek has taken the ATI Theater 550Pro and produced a very solid capture card that is perfect for any home theater or desktop computer. It is an all-in-one multimedia solution.
    Check out the full review. Also a mention for their review of the ECS KN1 Extreme, which slipped through my inbox a couple of days ago.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    At least a Theater 550 Pro card bundled with half-decent software. Now just need to get it for sale in the UK. Especially since supposedly the recent version of BeyondTV now supports UK EGP. Though as one US reviewer pointed out, the bundle includes the full BeyondTV, but only a 30-day EGP sub. Yet it costs the same to get the life-time sub as if you had bought BeyondTV seperately anyhow. So no real bargain.

    Had a play with the non-fancy ECS nForce4-939. Quite cheap and perfectly fine for general system. Didn't have time to try overclocking it. Couldn't get C'nQ to work on it though.

    The 550Pro chip looks great. Its a shame i want a freeview card now. Well actually i want a hybrid card. Nothing would be better than a 550Pro card with an additional digital tuner onboard.

    Yeah, with digital TV and now HDTV coming next-year, seems a shame ATi didn't have the foresight to add such features to this otherwise good chip. Those with hardware mpeg4 as well as mpeg2 and a twin tuner version would of made it one hell of a card.
